Downer

Very depressing. A good who done it, but I won't read this kind of book if I know that there are no, repeat no, happy outcomes for any of the characters . Beware

Boring or Bored narrator

I have never listened to a more unemotional, flat narration on Audible than this narrator.

great book great suspense

You never know what is next. I think this writer is under valued. Another one of his great books. I went to bed LATE a few nights trying to listen and figure out what was coming next. I recommend it.

A Very Engaging Well-narrated Thriller-Mystery!

It had me from the first sentence. . . and that exhilarating feeling didn't quit through the whole book. Barclay's writing is so natural and flows so realistically that the story is plausible throughout. Zeisler's narration is excellent. . so easy to listen for hours on end.

This is about a private detective, a couple in mourning, a small town, and a group of young adults mixed up in a story that centers around a rotten-to-the core cop. The untold secrets of the characters keep the story running and imaginations churning.

I can highly recommend this one!

Kept me guessing

Linwood Barclay has a way with Whodunit! Some characters more fully portrayed than others but otherwise great suspenseful writing.

God Read

This story kept my interest. The main character was strong yet sympathetic. I appreciated a mystery that wasn't gory. I will look for other books by this author.

Suspenseful with surprises

I liked the way the story played out. Suspenseful, with surprises. I thought the descriptions of the characters fit well with the smallish, northeastern town.
The narrators voice was pretty monotone, without expression, which did get boring. But at times in the story, monotone was fitting.

Pulse-Pounding Suspense..

This is a pulse-pounding, suspenseful story about Cal Weaver, a private detective living in a small town with corrupted officials. Everybody has secrets, and it's the exposure of individual secrets that kept the story moving at a good pace, and the people's tongue wagging and everybody's imagination running wild.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery thriller. Cal Weaver makes a foolish decision based on the memory of his dead son. With that decision, Cal is drawn into a mystery of death and sadness. Secrets are revealed one by one with a few unexpected twists and turns. Ending was unexpected and very sad.

Narrator Mark Zeisler has a slightly husky mature voice. His performance is good but his limited range of voices/tones made it hard to distinguish who was speaking from time to time, but overall okay.

Can't wait to dive into the next Barclay Book!

The story was great and so was the narration. I love Linwood's style of writing. There were a couple times with the addition of new characters I got confused and had to go back in book to remember who they were. However I did still really enjoy it.
