About this listen

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Words destroyed me.

"I'm sorry. She didn't make it."

"Daddy, he can't breathe!"

"There's nothing more we can do for your son."

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. More lies. Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn't acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.

Two words - that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.

"He's gone."

In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

"Hi. I'm Charlotte Mills."

Emotional

The perfect end to this duet. It had rage, heart and tons of emotion. A few more tears were shed but it comes full circle in the end. Brilliantly written as always from Aly.
Amazing narrators as well. Would high recommend this duet.

Empathy

This is the 2nd book of the duet of Dr Charlotte Mills angry and terrified.

It's 10 years later and she meets Porter Reese son Travis, only to discover Travis is Lucas. Enter a police investigation, custody concerns, hot heads, lies, lawyers and chaos. Travis is the only one that seems to have a voice of reason among all the adults.

This book with make you laugh, and empathize with all the characters Aly Martinez brings to life. It's unfortunate that kidnapping happens in today's society and with the narration of Nelson Hobbs and Kasha Kensington, makes you feel the pain, and the thought process of all touched by the tragedy. The great thing is, in this story there is a HEA.

10 "Phenomenal" Stars

Wow, just Wow! This book is simply amazing. 5 stars is not enough. This book will take you on an emotional journey. It is heartbreaking and it brought tears to me and my husband eyes. Especially the part when Travis broke down and said what was on his mind. What happened to Travis affected not only his parents but just about everybody in the book. I'm glad to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Narrators did an amazing job. You could feel the emotions in the characters.

Loved both books!

Excellent series! Wonderful and suspenseful twists and turns! I can usually figure out a plot twist within a couple chapters (I was able to figure out one plot twist but not until it was right in your face) but Aly had me stumped through most of this story. I was captivated and on the edge of my seat the whole time.

This entire series (Darkest Sunrise, Book 1 & Brightest Sunset, Book 2) had suspense, heartbreak, humor, support, jealousy, love and respect woven throughout all characters.

Note on Narration: Kasha Kensington was wonderful and brought life to the female lead and the children's voices. Her take on the male lead wasn't half bad either.
Nelson Hobbs did fantastic! Exactly how I feel the male lead should have sounded. He brought emotion and heartbreak and humor in a way I haven't heard other male narrators do before. Fantastic job!

An Emotional Journey from the darkness into the light!

Aly Martinez!! This woman is one of my absolute favorite authors. She brings the angst like no one else.
In this second and final installment, I felt the gut punches left and right. Devastation, heartbreak, healing, happiness, love. It all consumes you from one page to the next.

At first I was so disappointed in Charlotte, keeping Travis from Porter. Her of all people knew what it was like to have her child ripped from her so for her to put Porter through that, it literally broke my heart into a tiny million pieces. I cried so hard during this book. Big, fat, ugly tears of heartbreak. It’s emotionally consuming and will drag you through the darkness but the light at the end of the tunnel is so bright that it’s worth every minute of it.
This was an exceptionally unique story as I’ve come to expect from this author. Her writing is breathtaking and comes from a place full of heart. Every minute, every chapter, every moment of this story was a journey through something beautiful.
Highly emotional.
Whole- Heartedly Captivating.
A Must Read Story that will move you on an entirely soul touching level.
Definitely recommend

Nelson Hobbs gives one of the best performances ever. Passionate, emotional and full of heart. The narration in this book is exceptional. Kasha Kensington was beautiful. She took on Charlotte’s character in both the darkness and the light. It was truly moving.

Great yet predictable storyline

I truly enjoyed both books, and the epilogue was worth everything. Porter was kind of unrealistically amazing. Will give his brother Tanner a shot in the next book.

Wow, what a ride

I liked how the author portrayed the deep felt emotions of all three parents who were put in a terrible position.
As much as I wanted to hate Brady, you couldn’t help but to sympathize with him.

Wonderful Story!!

This story kept me constantly wondering how it was going to end. The situation everyone was in was quite unique, which is what I loved most about it. The narrators were fantastic. Both books are a must read (or listen).

What a nerve-wrecking ending!!

To say I couldn’t get to the ending fast enough is an understatement- now I want to go back and relive this entire story.
It’s definitely worth being prepared for the full duet.

This one was a little anticlimactic— but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Lots of family drama, and some questionable actions by the Main Characters but I got why it happened. I would’ve liked to see more actually bonding between Charlotte and Travis, and the romance take a back seat.
And Brady, ughh what an infuriating douche-y antagonist!

Great narration in dual first person pov

This book: 4 Bright Sunsets

Solid 4.5 as a complete duet.
