About this listen
Some things just wont stay buried.
The number one Sunday Times best-selling author returns with the much anticipated new Logan McRae thriller.
What drives someone to murder?
Logan McRae's personal history is hardly squeaky clean, but now that he works for Professional Standards he's policing his fellow officers.
When Detective Inspector Bell turns up dead in the drivers seat of a crashed car, it's a shock to everyone. Because Bell died two years ago. They buried him. Or they thought they did.
As an investigation is launched into Bell's stabbing, Logan digs into his past. Where has he been all this time? Why did he disappear? And what's so important that he felt the need to come back from the dead?
But the deeper Logan digs, the more bones he uncovers - and there are people out there who will kill to keep those skeletons buried. If Logan can't stop them, DI Bell won't be the only one to die.

Story
From the number-one best-selling author of The Missing and the Dead comes the short novel 22 Dead Little Bodies; two short stories: 'Stramash' and 'DI Steel's Bad Heir Day'; and a novella: The 45% Hangover, all featuring his most popular characters - DS Logan McRae and DCI Roberta Steel. They say 'small is beautiful', but as Stuart MacBride demonstrates in these four tales, it can also be dark, violent, disturbing, and sometimes really quite rude.

Five years ago his daughter, Rebecca, went missing on the eve of her 13th birthday. A year later the first card arrived: homemade, with a Polaroid picture stuck to the front – Rebecca, strapped to a chair, gagged and terrified. Every year another card: each one worse than the last. The tabloids call him The Birthday Boy. He’s been snatching girls for 12 years, always in the run-up to their 13th birthday, sending the families his homemade cards showing their daughters being slowly tortured to death.

He lives in your community, in a nice house with a well-tended garden. He shops in your grocery store, bumping shoulders with you and apologizing with a smile. He drives beside you on the highway, politely waving you into the lane ahead of him. What you don't know is that he has an elaborate cage built into a secret basement under his garage. And the food that he's carefully shopping for is to feed a young woman he's holding there against her will - one in a string of many, unaware of the fate that awaits her.

Definitely one of the best of the LM Series
Enjoyed the fact that in this novel there’s more focus on the case(s). Less outside stress with personal lives. Lots of call backs to old characters and tie ins to a few. Less DS Steel in this one, but I’m guessing it’s by design for the readers that have been strict to the chronological order and read/listened to Steel’s “spin-off” book before this one. Recommend you do that btw. Gives you a better feel for a few of the secondary characters if you do. Sad that I only have one left till a new one comes out. But can’t hold off. On to the next one..

These are so much fun to read. Sorry I get happy with such morbid stories, but the characters are beyond brilliant. The metaphors in and of themselves in everyone of these books deserve awards. Keep them coming!!

Wow, I needed that
I LOVE Logan McRae and every single character in his world, right down to Kthulu the cat. There’s something about the way MacBride puts words together that makes me feel connected to his characters in a way that few authors can. This time out we meet a sadder, harder Logan, still talking to himself and Kthulu, tentatively exploring a new relationship, working in Standards and Practices and dealing with the most evil denizens Aberdeen has to offer. Steve Worsely is outstanding as always. Hope it never ends!

Stuart MacBride is King of the Series!
1/2way Into this book 11 of the Logan McRae series, had to note S.M. is king! He is masterful in turning a single novel into a saga that spans the life and times of fabulous characters and drama that pops right out of the best and worst of the human condition! Blood Road tackles the worst case of current events in police lore, human trafficking. Outstanding and shocking insight into a facet of the horrid tales that are only now having the light shone upon them. Human trafficking is a reality whose depth and breadth is unimaginably wicked and ever present in the early 21st C.
