About this listen
The whispering swirled about Lidoire But nothing reached her father's ears; For none would risk his wrath to tell Come true had one of his greatest fears
One autumn in medieval Provence, a nobleman's only daughter finds herself mysteriously pregnant. The girl, Lidoire, has never lain with a man and wonders if she, like the Virgin Mary, has conceived immaculately.
Years earlier, her father betrothed her to the powerful prince of Navarre; through the marriage, he hopes to further his own ambitions. In her father's castle, Lidoire fearfully watches her belly grow until Moreau - her father's vintner, a man who's always been like a loving uncle - comes to her. He offers to hide her in a wilderness hermitage through the winter, so she might return in the spring with the baby. The sight of his beloved daughter returned with his grandchild on her breast, Moreau hopes, will abate the sure to be terrible anger of Lidoire's father.
But Moreau's plans are more than what they seem, and in the wilderness Lidoire makes a decision that will reveal the shocking truth of her pregnancy, a decision whose repercussions will be felt from the idyllic, sun-drenched vineyards of southern France to the bloody battlefield outside the Holy City of Jerusalem.
Set in the time of the First Crusade (1096-1099), The Ballad of St. Lidoire is a tale of love and betrayal, the vicissitudes of time, and the messy way in which saints are sometimes created.

Story
Anne Gifford's dowry - or lack thereof - is of no concern to Sir Dylan DeFrayne. Wrapped in each other's arms, what more could they possibly need? Yet the young lovers' passion can never be sanctioned - the DeFraynes and Giffords have been sworn enemies for decades. Lest more blood be shed, the two must keep their affair a secret…and plot their elopement. Clad in threadbare hand-me-downs, Anne never expects the powerful and aged Brennan Forbes to remember her face, let alone propose marriage.

Story
From master storyteller Bryce Courtenay comes a colorful, lusty story set in the 13th century, an epic tale of a Europe torn by religious intolerance. The story centers around Sylvia Honeyeater, who sings like an angel and can literally charm the birds from the trees. The narrative also features the Pied Piper of Hamelin, Francis of Assisi, the Muslim Sultan and his harem, and the fervor that becomes the Children's Crusade and then, later, the Crusades.

Story
The Arthurian Romances by Chrétien de Troyes form the wellspring of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Stories of knightly valour in the Welsh Marches had existed before the 12th century, but it was the magnificent poetry and imagination of Chrétien, the 12th century French poet and trouvère, which brought alive the great characters of Arthur, his wife Guinevere, Lancelot and others.

Story
Ancient Constantinople, the glorious capital of the Eastern Roman Empire for over 1,000 years, and the jewel of Christendom, is the setting for this incredible historical novel. No other city in the world could compare with it in grandeur, splendor, and wealth. And when it fell to the Turks in 1453, it must have seemed like the end of the world to Christians. Famed author Mika Waltari takes us into the last months of this dying city as revealed in the diary of John Angelos, a strange man hopelessly in love with the daughter of an eminent Byzantine official.

Story
Celtic Britain is on the brink of collapse, and the kingdom's bloodiest days are upon it. For many years, the people of Briton have enjoyed peace and prosperity under the reign of King Arthur. He has ruled with dignity, honor, and humility. Arthur is now weakening with age, however, and the seeds of discontent are being sown. Seeking to cleanse the land of Christian belief, dissenters need a symbol with which to legitimize their pagan claim and gather malcontents together into a cohesive weapon.
