About this listen

Awarded the 2016 Nautilus Silver Medal for Personal Growth!

This is the book your money-savvy best friend, therapist, and accountant would write if they could. It's the book about money for people who don't even want to think about money, until the arrival of that inevitable day when we all realize we must come to terms with this thing called money.

Everyone has pain and challenges, strengths, and dreams about money, and many of us mix profound shame into that relationship. In The Art of Money, Bari Tessler offers an integrative approach that creates the real possibility of "money healing", using our relationship with money as a gateway to self-awareness and a training ground for compassion, confidence, and self-worth.

Tessler's gentle techniques weave together emotional depth, big picture visioning, and refreshingly accessible, nitty-gritty money practices that will help anyone transform their relationship with money and, in so doing, transform their life. As Bari writes, "When we dare to speak the truth about money, amazing healing begins."

Loved the psychological side

I greatly enjoyed her knowledge as a financial therapist. You can budget all you want but your emotions will override your logic every time.

Beautiful blend of mindfulness and practical money wisdom

I’ve read quite a few money books and this one stands out as one of the best. There were actionable steps from each chapter along with the author’s unique perspective to put each concept into context. I appreciated the stories, the frameworks, and the unique approach to creating a values-based relationship with money. One of the last lines sums up the book when she talks about cultivating more sovereignty, softness and strength in her money relationship. This book is a guide to doing just that. Loved this one.

These types of books are NEEDED.

I never connected with financial gurus because I felt that they had a way of shaming you to do better and almost look down on you. Bari helps you face your money challenges in a kind and gentle way that empowers and encourages you to make financial peaceful decisions.

wonderful!

this book is for those who can't seem to find their way with traditional ways of learning to manage finances and money. and for those that find thinking about money gives them the ick. Bari has completely taken the cringe out of my thoughts towards taking charge of my financial life, and I can't even describe this feeling of freedom that I currently feel. I'm actually excited to do this work and make these shifts in my life. the 1st chapter had me so triggered I was practically sweating but by the halfway point I was getting almost giddy. something was already changing in me and I haven't even done the homework yet. I highly recommend this book if you'd like to think about money in a positive light and possibly release the shame, blame, and ick in relation to your money-life!

This book is wasted my time and money.

This book is wasted my time and money. This book sucks, no helpful at all, but only talk about herself, always her, her, her.

Good but nothing original

The author does a good job of sharing a variety of financial advice specifically around values-based financial management.

Where in my opinion it falls short, is that it’s nothing you don’t get from any other book. She occasional nuggets that are interesting but not worth the whole book. Personally, if it was a traditional book, I wouldn’t have finished it.

My personal favorite money books currently are Profit Now (aimed at business owners) and Its Not Your Money by Tosha Silver.
