About this listen
"Mahoney authentically captures the universal indignities of middle school, the challenges of self-discovery, and the joy of making true friends."—Publishers Weekly, Starred Review
Dear Lou,
You've been asking and asking about what middle school is like, but I just thought they were annoying-younger-sister questions. Even though I am almost done with my first year, I can still remember when I thought middle school was a mystery, so I'll try to give you a leg up. I know middle school is a lot to figure out. But since I still haven't worked it all out yet, I'm happy to help as much as I can. That's what big sisters are for.
Love, Gus
Discover the ins and outs of middle school in this guide from an older sister to her younger sister. From tackling a new building to meeting new people like the assistant principal, the class pet, the Huggers, the renegade, the tomato kid, your old best friend's new best friend, this is a must-listen for everyone starting middle school.
With wit and warmth, Kristin Mahoney, author of Annie's Life in Lists, delivers heartwarming, pitch-perfect advice, ideal for anyone nervously approaching middle school.

Story
Annie's a shy fifth grader with an incredible memory and a love of making lists. It helps her keep track of things when they can seem a little out of control, like her family, her friends, and her life in a new place. Annie has: 1. An incredible memory (really, it's almost photographic) that can get her in trouble; 2. A desire to overcome her shyness; 3. A brother who is mad at her because he thinks she is the reason they had to move to Clover Gap, population 8,432; 4. A best friend who she is (almost) certain will always be her best friend; 5. New classmates, some of whom are nicer than others; and 6. A rocky start finding her place in her new home.

After the loss of her parents, she moves to rural Yorkshire to live with a distant uncle where she resents the wildness of the countryside. At first, she struggles to find a place in this new existence. Although unsure about her surroundings and its occupants, through the gentle guidance of the maid she gradually becomes interested in the story of Mrs Craven, who apparently used to spend her time in a garden at the house, the key to which has vanished.

Great book about social situations
We are honored to be the first to review this on Amazon. My 9 year old’s speech and language therapist suggested this book. We really enjoyed it. The characters were very realistic and gave us a chance to talk about social situations. We are going to check out Kristen’s debut novel, Annie’s Life in Lists next.
