About this listen

What could possibly induce at woman to follow in the footsteps of her mother and further sully her reputation by becoming a mistress?

Lilly Claremont is well used to being at the center of gossip. Being the illegitimate child of a rich businessman never failed to titillate the gossips, and while she cared little about the wagging tongues, she never intended to reinforce their opinions of her by ruining herself completely.

But it seems Lord Hawksley is determined to make the fascinating Lilly his mistress....

Evan has no doubt her bold tongue and beautiful body could keep him entertained for some time. Captivated by her, he must find a way to burn through his desire for her. He cannot marry a woman of such social standing, so why not make her his mistress?

After the murder of her father, Lilly is searching for answers and they lead her directly to Lord Hawksley. But will they also lead her to his bed...?

What Is a Mistress Really?

Evan is lonely and when he meets Lily he is not impressed.
Lily thinks he is arrogant and self centered. Yet they are drawn to each other even though they anger one another to no end.

I don't understand why men had to have Mistresses yet I know that time period it was the thing to do. Mostly because they thought a wife couldn't have those deep emotional feelings about sex.

I think you would benefit yourself from reading or listening to this book. The storyline was beautiful. I must admit I was in tear through some very tense scenes.

Again I am going to praise the Narrator of this book as she does a superb job of making the story and characters come alive. I enjoyed listening to her read this story to me very much.

Sweet love story, great narration

Sweet story with an interesting plot. Some storylines a bit too simplistic/overdone. Samantha Holt fans will like this book. Highly recommend the narrator, Stevie Zimmerman.

redundant redundant

I purchased this because I enjoy the narrator. Alas, there is only so much even a wonderful narrator can do to make the same lines and circumstances feel fresh. The story was predictable, and then to listen to it several times over as lines and scenes are repeated throughout the book became tedious.

Fortunately, the author has a decent grasp of language and writing of plot and scene, and the storyline has some freshness to it; it is not a total waste nor a bad book. I'd would just have preferred to have it tightened up. A lot. YMMV.

Not the best by the author.

What disappointed you about Tempting His Mistress?

I get that life back then was harsh and society was much more restricted but I felt the hero didn't romance the heroine much, he pretty much bought her. And when she acquiesced, she turned out to be such a meek creature in his company, he even mentioned that the fiery creature with that quick with he was so attracted to had disappeared. Part of that was because she was afraid of him. He was cold, distant and aloof. At least when they were together intimately he didn't forget she also had needs that needed fulfilled so that was a point on his favor I guess. Oh, yeah, he also helped women that were physically abused by their husband - let's forget that he in a way abused Lilly emotionally by constantly reminding her she was just a mistress and nothing else :(

What could Samantha Holt have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The heroine was first introduced as a smart creature but when she's turned into a mistress she turned into a meek creature. Her character changed completely. I wish she would have remained a stronger woman throughout the story.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Her voice sounded a little flat throughout the story. It didn't help me liking the hero what with his voice always sounding so cold and distant, even when he was with Lily.

What character would you cut from Tempting His Mistress?

The rest of the story was alright, I won't complain about that.

Any additional comments?

I supposed in the end he explained his reasons for acting the way he did, she explained her reasons and everyone lived happily ever after but for me it was a little way too late. So, all in all not the best story by this author.
