About this listen

A bold new world where the magical and mundane co-exist in an uneasy alliance - and a cop balanced on her own knife-edged struggle is their only hope against a cold-blooded killer.

Lily Yu is a San Diego police detective investigating a series of grisly murders that appear to be the work of a werewolf. To hunt down the killer, she must infiltrate the clans. Only one man can help her - a were named Rule Turner, a prince of the lupi, whose charismatic presence disturbs Lily.

Rule has his own reasons for helping the investigation - reasons he doesn't want to share with Lily. Logic and honor demand she keep her distance, but the attraction between them is immediate and devastating - and beyond human reason. Now, in a race to fend off evil, Lily finds herself in uncharted territory, tested as never before, and at her back a man who she's not sure she can trust.

Wonderfully done

The book is a wonderful read. It has an urban fantasy setting with a police procedural romance feel. The characters are entrancing and the story is a real page-turner. The Graphic Audio brings the story to life with a full cast, sound effects and mood music! Highly recommend.

Good story, annoying dramatization

The story is fast-paced with strong characters and great world-building. While the narration is good, the sound effects of the dramatization push it past dramatic and into comedic. Overdone

Even more annoying when extra sound effects are added in that don’t fit the story (like heavy breathing for characters running when the story has already said they don’t get tired like that or all the dog-whining noises that don’t go with lupi character descriptions)

Excited to Begin the Journey

I listened to the prequel book for this series and loved it. Seeing how many books made up the story thus far, I jumped into this hoping I’d enjoy it as much as the prequel. It did not disappoint. The world building is great, and all of the characters are genuinely interesting.

The only negative is the female lead’s voice. The voice has an older quality that may have fit had the character been 20-30 years older; it was an odd misfit here. By the end I associated the voice with the character enough to ease the dissonance, but it never went away.

Well done Urban Fantasy

Listened with GraphicAudio. I should not be surprised at how fun this book was to read as it had many 4 and 5 star reviews and had been recommended by an author I respect and enjoy. As a first in a series, lots of world building going on and characters to get to know (and love or hate or, or, or. . .). Good action, good dialogue and I would have appreciated less description - but, world building going on. What I really enjoyed: two really disparate characters being whammied in a positive way by an entity not on this earth, the demanding, wonderful Grandmother, Dirty Harry, and so many different ways of looking at this world from characters' points of view. Paranormal but not the garden variety. Looking forward to more good reading in this series.

Excellent Series.

If you are fans of Patricia Briggs, Iona Andrews, KF Breene, Michelle Sangara, Anne Bishop, etc… this series is for you. While I usually do not read a series twice, I enjoyed the audible version of the last few books in this series so much that I bought the whole series in audible. If you haven’t listened to World of the Lupi, you will not be sorry if you try it.

Excellent narration

Great storyline. I love the graphic audio. I like the fact there are good narrators in the dramatization. I get so tired of poor narration. I wish more authors would do this.

Enjoyable

The plot, characters, and storyline were good. My only complaint is the main character, a 29 year old woman, sounds like a 60 year old woman. Very disconcerting.

Okay Story Ruined by Narration

I just could not immerse myself into this story due to the horrible narration. The voice overs were fine, but the background effects were beyond annoying. I'd call this an over-dramatized adaptation. Better to read the book and skip this audiobook. It will save you a migraine.

Good acting, great story, cringe worthy sound effects

I thought the other reviews overstated the awkwardness of the sound effects at first and then I got to the romance part of the story. Ick! Also the heavy breathing by Rule was hilarious. Next time do the multiple actors without the sound effects!

it's not bad...

I really don't mind the graphic audio aspect.

The book itself it nothing to jump over, I lost interest by the end but I finished it. also, I will not be reading further as I don't think I could get aything else out of the series, and that is sad to say at just book 1.
