About this listen

On their first day of training with the Metropolitan Police, new recruits Jamie, Bunny, and Tina are asked to join a team of undercover detectives, a secret unit involved in the long-term penetration of criminal gangs. Their target? One of the world’s biggest drug dealers: Den Donovan, alias "Tango One".

To close in on their quarry, the three must go back into the outside world and become criminals themselves. But someone within the Met is pursuing an alternative agenda. Someone who has deliberately put their lives on the line.…

How the wealthy beneficiaries of crime behave!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Some of the dialogue between charactgers is irritating, with Tango One in particular often ending his statements with yeah?

Would you ever listen to anything by Stephen Leather again?

Yes> I am a Stephen Leather fan, having read all of the Dan Shepherd series so far released and several other titles.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I might have enjoyed this book more if it had been read by Paul thornely, who is the master of the Stephen Leather novels and short stories.

Any additional comments?

The book offered so much, and although the story line is acceptable, I don't regard this as Stephen Leather's best offering. I might have enjoyed this more if the dialogue was more natural, and the audio publishers had chosen a better narrator.

Another great read from Stephen Leather

Would you consider the audio edition of Tango One to be better than the print version?

For me yes, my eyesights getting worse and its was great to sit back on my sofa and soak it up. The narrator was very good and I got a real sense of the characters and the atmosphere of the action.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well Den Donavan the protagonist of course the lovable villain, who wouldn't want to be him?

Have you listened to any of Stephen Greif’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

yes the tension between Den and his son, Leather describes it very well very realistic and any single father will feel that lump in his throat

Any additional comments?

Read my first Stephen Leather book over 20 years ago, after I met him in Thailand, read most of his novels, in fact read the paper back version of this years ago, I just heard they're making Tango One into a movie, so wanted to read it again before the movie comes out.
