Marie Reinhart is an NYPD detective on the trail of a serial killer. When she sleeps, though, she dreams of other lives; she dreams of being a knight, in strange wars and strange worlds. On the other side of the city, Nessa Roth is a college professor trapped in a loveless marriage, an unwilling prop in a political dynasty. She's also a fledgling witch, weaving poppets and tiny spells behind closed doors.
When Marie's case draws her into Nessa's path, sparks fly. What comes next is more than a furtive whirlwind affair; it's the first pebbles of an avalanche. Nessa and Marie are the victims of a curse that has pursued them across countless lifetimes; a doom designed to trap them in a twisted living fairy tale, with their romance fated to end in misery and death.
They aren't going out without a fight. As they race to uncover the truth, forces are in motion across the country. In Las Vegas, a professional thief is sent on a deadly heist. In a Detroit back alley, witches gather under the guidance of a mysterious woman in red. Just outside New York, an abandoned zoo becomes the hunting-ground for servants of a savage and alien king. The occult underground is taking sides and forming lines of battle. Time is running out, and Nessa and Marie have one chance to save themselves, break the curse, and demand justice.
This time, they're writing their own ending.

The Wisdom's Grave Trilogy, Book 1
By: Craig Schaefer
Narrated by: Susannah Jones
I love all of Craig Schaefer 's work and this is just as good. Great combo of detective work, magic, evil, good, touch of romance, twisted brotherhood, true friendship, unpredictable plot, and real sets of situations and supernatural activities and curses. Starting on book 2 right away.
The narration was excellent!
Awesome combo of fantasy, adventure, etc

As for the narrator she was very good with all the new characters, the problem was with the old ones, unfortunately it just didn’t feel like the real Faust and Temple and Black because I was so used to the narrators of their books and she didn’t really lend anything to make them feel like they do in the other series. It kinda killed my excitement of seeing them in this story for me. If that doesn’t bother you the way it did me though then you shouldn’t have any trouble with the narration.
Another good one for Schaefer’s universe

the new narrator is fantastic and really brings the story of Marie and Nessa to life!
as much as i’m always practically itching to get back to Dan and the others (Caitlin!), i’m already quite invested in what’s going to happen to these two cursed lovers!
let the magic and mayhem continue!

Would you listen to Sworn to the Night again? Why?
Yes. Many times. The Faust/Black series is some of my go to background listening material, and this builds on all of that. What was one of the most memorable moments of Sworn to the Night?
"You have the one thing none of us ever had: A FIGHTING CHANCE!"Have you listened to any of Susannah Jones’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, she did a great job with the Revanche cycle books and this is a continuation of thatDid you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book is an extreme reaction.Any additional comments?
The Revanche Cycle was some of the best material Schaefer has ever written. Naturally it sold like dog droppings. I'm glad that he worked up the nerve to go outside his comfort zone again.Schaefer needs to do more passion projects

Flat and uninteresting.

I love all of the Daniel Faust books by Craig Schaefer, but despite the fact that he's in this it just doesn't make the grade. I found the book was written from too many unnecessary points of view. Not only was there the two main characters, but Faust, Melody Black, at least 2 'bad guys' pov and a handful of others including the police and the person telling the story. While I did like the two main characters of Nessa and Marie as well as the pairing, I found the '50 Shades of Grey' thing they had going on a bit weird.
I kept listening to this story simply because of my love of the Daniel Faust books, and his inclusion made this pretty awesome for me, but I don't think I'll be running to get the next installment. I'll probably pick it up eventually out of curiosity, but I spent too much time with this book wondering if I should put it down to give it more than general interest.
Too much wandering, but a decent ending.
