Story
We live in an extraordinary time. Technological advances are happening at a rate faster than our ability to understand them, and in a world that moves faster than we can imagine, we cannot afford to stand still. These advances bring efficiency and abundance - and they are profoundly deflationary. Our economic systems were built for a pre-technology era when labor and capital were inextricably linked - an era that counted on growth and inflation and an era where we made money from inefficiency.

In 1986, before Michael Lewis became the best-selling author of The Big Short, Moneyball, and Flash Boys, he landed a job at Salomon Brothers, one of Wall Street’s premier investment firms. During the next three years, Lewis rose from callow trainee to New York- and London-based bond salesman, raking in millions for the firm and cashing in on a modern-day gold rush. Liar’s Poker is the culmination of those heady, frenzied years - a behind-the-scenes look at a unique and turbulent time in American business.

Story
Here, anthropologist David Graeber presents a stunning reversal of conventional wisdom: He shows that before there was money, there was debt. For more than 5,000 years, since the beginnings of the first agrarian empires, humans have used elaborate credit systems to buy and sell goods - that is, long before the invention of coins or cash. It is in this era, Graeber argues, that we also first encounter a society divided into debtors and creditors.

When the economy imploded in 2008, the Fed got credit for rescuing us.

Story
For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

Good review, mediocre summary
I'd say it's rather a professional review of the book than its summary. As a summary it's rather shallow, with little insight, but as a review for someone who wants to decide whether to read the full book, it's quite useful, I think.

informative
helpful to understand the promise of incurring debt and the purchasing power bestowed through credit, and finally how a miscaliberation between reality and overconfidence can pave the way to ruin.

For me, all value was heard in the "sample"
I am an admirer of Dalio, and I haven't read the summarized book, so this deals narrowly with what I got from this summary. The four tools identified to deal with debt in the big picture, and the balancing act of managing with those tools, as heard in the "sample," was a neat compact idea. That's why I bought the summary, expecting more on this level. The remaining content of this summary was OK, but it was all really basic historical stuff, familiar and obvious to me, as a person who has studied this topic at some length. If I had it to do over again, I would just listen to the free sample.
