Acerca de esta escucha

Suffer the Children presents a terrifying tale of apocalyptic fiction, as listeners are introduced to Herod's Syndrome, a devastating illness that suddenly and swiftly kills all young children across the globe. Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

Featured Article: The top 100 horror books of all time

This list encompasses the full spectrum of what horror can be—campfire-worthy tales, stomach-churning gore, and incisive social commentary. The classics are accounted for, but it also spotlights more recent titles, because that’s the nature of the genre—it is as perennial as it is ever-evolving, conjuring whatever frights most haunt our collective consciousness. Each title does have one thing in common: It makes for devilishly good listening. So cut the lights and press play—if you dare.

What other book might you compare Suffer the Children to and why?

The book actually reminded me of the movie "Blindness" (2008) in the tone of it.

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

RC Bray is a favorite narrator of mine - he never fails to bring forth the right emotion and voice to the story and characters.

Any additional comments?

Absolutely chilling look at parents, children, and parental actions/responsibilities. The writing is great and the narration is spot on and excellent. I found it an interesting study on what parents are willing to do for their kids. Pretty horrifying stuff. Definitely check this out if you aren't easily shaken by children in horror settings.

Absolutely chilling

Probably the best story and narration of any audio book I've listened to. Amazing.

Absolutely Fantastic!

The concept was cool, but I felt the plot was underdeveloped and the characters got too much attention. With that much attention on a large cast, the book should have been longer. For me, there just wasn't enough going on.

Interesting premise, too much filler

I'm not into plagues or apoloclypic books, but this was so good! What would you do for your kids? What lengths would you give through? These poor parents! OMG! Nobody wins!

Excellent story!

Awesome story

Loved this one. The author did an amazing job not only telling the story but enriching the characters. You could relate each character to someone you know. I could see this book being a very good movie!

RC Bray, The best there is

I generally don't care for zombie novels but this was outstanding. In terms of horror and imagination it was superb. What a ride into how far humans will go to protect their own. I loved it

Bad Bad babbies

This is actually the scariest I've listened to in a long time, and actually reminds me of the pandemic, where people looted because of survival. How far would you go to save your dead children? Even when they're no longer actually children? If you've read Stephen King then think of Children of the Corn, Gage from Pet Semetary and Salem's Lot all rolled into one. Gage was one adorable and creepy kid, children of the Corn were just plain creepy, and Salem's Lot - vampires. This novel has all of that with well-developed characters that you can sympathize with and honestly makes you think how far would a parent go to save their children and honestly it's pretty damn far and certainly not very logical - after listening to this. I thought the narrator did a great job and I can still hear the voice of Josh screaming "I'm hungry!" Super Spooky Horror!

It's like a Stephen King combo horror!

Such a great flowing story. A book like this isn't going to have a happy ending, but the flow and ebb of this story was great. I highly recommend it!

Creepy and Moving

Not a typical“horror” book. Good story line and character development. I was invested in the story right away.

Hooked from the start
