About this listen

NYPD Detective Michael Bennett is about to take on the most sinister challenge of his career. The nation has fallen into mourning after the unexpected death of a beloved former first lady, and the most powerful people in the world gather in New York for her funeral. Then the inconceivable occurs. Billionaires, politicians, and superstars of every kind are suddenly trapped within one man's brilliant and cold-blooded scenario.

Bennett, father of 10, is pulled into the fray. As the danger escalates, he is hit with devastating news: after fighting for many years, his wife has succumbed to a terrible disease. As New York descends into chaos, he has lost the great love of his life, faces raising his heartbroken children alone, and must somehow rescue 34 hostages.

Day after day, Bennett confronts the most ruthless man he has ever dealt with, a man who kills without hesitation and counters everything the NYPD and FBI throw at him with impunity. As the entire world watches, and the tensions builds to a searing heat, Bennett has to find a way out or face responsibility for the greatest debacle in history.

We tend to get these for our long trips. Recently we drove to Georgia from Texas and enjoyed this book very much. Intrigue, suspense, and good narration are all that this Audible book provides. Enjoy as we did!

I have read almost all of the Bennett books, actually read. He is by far my favorite character from Patterson. I accidentally bought the abridged copy to step back into the Bennett world, I must say I'm very good it was abridged, the sound effects and music were irritating at best. The narrators weren't horrible, so why mess it up with music and sounds?

I love the Bennett books

I usually like Hachette produced stories but once again a Patterson co-written story, that was just better than average (but not by much), was ruined by the totally unnecessary musical tracks that kicked in st various times. It was distracting at best and infuriating at worst. I almost didn’t make it through the first 10+ minutes because there was a constant music track behind the narrator. And it was not mixed very well because I could hardly hear what the narrator was saying. The music was so distracting and overwhelmed the narrator. I only kept going because I hit FFWD after 5 minutes of slogging through sonic mush and found out where the music finally stopped. It wasn’t like the narrator was bad, so there was no need try and cover it up. And the story was okay. I was looking for a new series to get into but I don’t think I’ll be getting any more of these. If you wanna check out the series, maybe buy the ebook and read it yourself. This is the first time I was actually glad I accidentally got the abridged version of an audiobook…

Story was okay. Music was incredibly disruptive.
