“An emotionally absorbing and swiftly paced multisensory experience.” —The New York Times Book Review

Named a Best Memoir of 2023 by Elle

In the vein of Somebody’s Daughter, this wild, vivid addiction memoir from the host of the podcast The Only One in the Room “will inspire, awe, entertain, educate, and help so many readers” (Christie Tate, New York Times bestselling author) with a journey to sobriety and self-love amidst privilege and racism.

After years of hiding her addiction from everyone—stockpiling pills in her Louboutins and elaborately scheduling her withdrawals between PTA meetings, baby showers, and tennis matches—Laura Cathcart Robbins is running out of places to hide.

She has learned the hard way that even her high-profile marriage and Hollywood lifestyle can’t protect her from the pain she’s keeping bottled up inside. Facing divorce, the possibility of a grueling custody battle, and the insistent voice of internalized racism that nags at her as a Black woman in a startlingly white world, Laura wonders just how much more she can take.

Now, with courageous and candid openness, she reveals how she started the long journey towards sobriety, unexpectedly found new love, and dismantled the wall she had built around herself, brick by brick. With its raw, finely crafted, and engaging prose, Stash is “emotionally riveting…usher[ing] in a new way for us to talk and read about the paradoxes of addiction, race, family, class, and gender.” (Kiese Laymon, author of Heavy).

Outstanding!

Loved this book and I’m glad the author chose to record it. Her road to recovery reminds us there is no right way to get sober. Laura broke so many of the “rules” and was still able to find her peace. I hope she writes more books in the future! I bought the book on Holly’s recommendation, and she never misses.

honest

Tells the truth of what goes on within an addicts mind. Relatable as it tells the chain reaction within a family.

Compelling Story of Love and Recovery

While at times a tough read the author managed to tell her truth in a raw, loving and respectful manner. As the widow of an alcoholic I appreciated the honesty and care she used to tell the story of her internal struggles, marriage and divorce.

A great story of truth.

This book was a fabulous find. I love how truthful the author is and hope it is encouraging to others in her situation. Good can come out of anything as long as you stay alive.

I absolutely love this woman’s personality

I didn’t dislike one thing in this book. This woman is super interesting and her personality shines through during this beautiful memoir. But it was a lovely story and even though some people would make fun of her addiction, she spoke her truth. I absolutely adore this book

Honest, action-packed recovery story

Laura tells a seamless story. It’s as if the words are flowing from her onto the page. She had some luck in staying sober. She also had a strong support system to not relapse. A realistic look at the frenzy of addiction, the fundamentals of treatment, and the disorienting days of returning home. Thank you, Laura!!

A MASTERPIECE is among us!

Wow! I just finished listening to this memoir written with such honesty and vulnerability from a woman who had every possible wall built up around her. Her privileged life was not enough to keep the pain of childhood traumas she experienced from coming back to haunt her. Along with the pressure to keep up with societal expectations of a mother trying to “do it all” the title gives way to her seeking relief through prescription meds. It is so raw and detailed and her telling of her own story is truly riveting. A must listen for anyone who is curious or has had their own struggles with addiction or close to someone that has. It proves that the disease of addiction does not discriminate. It can get to literally anyone and everyone. I could have finished it sooner but I found myself rewinding and rewinding to listen again to the intensity of her extremely detailed recounts of her struggles. Also, I didn’t want it to end I enjoyed listening so much. Her style of writing is unique and so refreshing to listen to, along with her voice. I would give it more stars ⭐️ if I could!

A Raw and Relatable War Within

If it wasn’t a true story, it would be difficult to believe. For the millions of people who struggle with addiction, it shows there is help and hope available. When the author dug deep into why she hid in so many ways, I could truly relate. I also appreciated how she depicted
being confronted with the temptation to relapse. And that temptation can be overcome. I will listen to it again!

The ending was so well done

I felt it in her voice as I listened as a fellow addict in recovery. True and real. Gave me hope ♥️
