About this listen

Combat, betrayal, and murder at the edge of human space....

Deployed to assist the oligarchs of Wanderjahr in putting down a rebellion that threatens the planet's political and economic stability, the Marines must fight two wars at the same time...one against the resourceful, well-led guerrillas and another with the entrenched police bureaucracy.

But who is the real enemy and who can be trusted? On Wanderjahr, nothing is as it seems - not even the animal life - and everyone has his own agenda. Inexorably, the Marines of the 34th FIST are drawn deeper and deeper into the politics of a world where murder, terror, and betrayal are the accepted methods of government...and everyone is ripe for an old-fashioned butt-kickin'.

read the book

Listening to the abridged version is a waste of time, these are great stories and these do no justice.

Why such a drastic abridgment?

I bought three of these but wish I had not. I am a fan of military sf, but the stories I got were so cut up and condensed that it was hardly worth hearing. They might have been pretty good had there been any character development left, but sadly it all ended up on the cutting room floor. I hope the authors were really angry when they saw what the publisher did to their hard work. Save your money and look for the unabridged version elsewhere.

Great series

This entire series in print is great, but this download is abridged. Still good for a couple of hours in the car or on the train.

Disappointing

Narrative was choppy, and the plot hard to follow. The story jumps from scene to scene with little or no explanation as to why we are suddenly there. The characters were cardboard cut-outs, full of Semper Fi machismo, with almost no backstory to make you care for them. As a military Sci-Fi piece, I was expecting some detail into tactics and combat, but there was little of that as well. Entire battles were condensed to one or two un-fulfilling sentences. Finally, the conclusion to the plot comes right out of left field, with no chance for the reader to discover it for themselves. It was a disappointing end to a disappointing story.
