About this listen

A failed mage learns that just because he's not the chosen one it doesn't mean he can't be a hero in the fourth book of an exciting adventure fantasy series from Sebastien de Castell.

For Kellen, the only way to survive is to hide. His curse is growing stronger, bringing dark and violent visions, and the bounty hunters dogging his heels get closer every day.

The imaginative creation of the magical systems throughout are wonderful.

To lose Rikus for the whole book practically, took out my favorite aspect of this series, which is the humor that the "Squirrel Cat" brings. That animal is laugh out loud funny and to be stuck with a self-effacing immature Kellen for the whole story was almost too much to bear. If the author didn't bring him back, I wouldn't continue with this series. Rikus rules! 😂

Growing up!

Kellen is growing up and each book brings him closer and closer to place a self acceptance. This book moves beyond the whine of book 2 and the sullenness of book 3.

This series has been really enjoyable. And I’m especially pleased that the challenges Kellen faces do not grow in difficulty or complexity. Their are no artificial setbacks that negate the growth of previous books. Kellen is a young man growing up and learning to face the challenges before him without magic or special powers.

His wits and his cunning are all he needs. Tricks will inevitably fail you!

This is fast becoming one of my favourite series.

another piece of GOLD!!!

Absolute gold. Not only is this series by far one of the best I've ever followed, but has to be one of the best storylines ever. Thank you so much for letting me go down the journey with you. Reichis is by far my favorite character ( not getting bit for sure), and the little squirrel cat had me crying more this book than ever. I'm so glad to see all the characters evolving so well. I know this book just came out and I finished it in a day, but I still can't wait for the next one. THANK YOU!!!

Character growth is poignant; excellent voice acting

While some key characters are mostly absent from this installment of the series, their influence is present as the protagonist works through problems by remembering them and imagining their advice or taunts. This book seems a bit darker than the others and more introspective, but there’s some amazing insight into human behavior, and humor is sprinkled throughout. So this book in the series is well worth reading or listening to.

There were a couple of plot puzzlements for me—I was confused about the female mage that was killed in the desert—somehow thought she was a key character. I also wasn’t too clear on abnegation procedures, and the final scene with the female shadow-caster character seemed unlikely/a bit hokey if she was suffering from such a serious head injury.

The best part of the story, in addition to the cleverness of our hero, is the amazing voice acting of the narrator. I’m quite impressed that he can do an impression of one character attempting to imitate other characters’ accents and voice patterns. He also conveys the emotional nuances of each scene very believably and engagingly.

I’d recommend this book solely for the great human psychology. The ending is really impactful in terms of character growth. Loved it!

This book kept me up way too late at night for a couple of nights, so read/listen when you don’t have to be up early!

The saga continues.

The path of endless stars deserves more than the 5 I can give it. This is another beautiful entry in the spellslinger. Each book makes me feel joy and heartache in equal measure and leaves me more than a little bleary eyed at the end. This book is no exception.

fantastic continuation

the series just keeps getting better and better and remains completely unpredictable. Not since Jim Butcher has an author so thoroughly trod all over his main character.
