About this listen

I love him. I loathe him.

It’s like plucking daisy petals in my head, but he’ll never know.

When Miles Cavanaugh, the best safety in the league, was traded to the Chicago Grizzlies football team last year, I could finally breathe. Temptation was miles away.

How naïve to think it would end there, because when the opportunity to write for a national magazine based in Chicago lands in my lap months later, I can’t turn it down. Sure, it’s a big city, but the sexual energy feels like a beacon between us the minute my plane lands.

To make matters worse, I end up having to take over the job of reporting exclusively on the Chicago Grizzlies. Which means traveling with the team, interviewing players, and pretty much having an all-access pass to their lives during the season.

Miles and I put up a great front, quickly hating on one another, but we both know it’s a lie. We also know the rules are simple. For me, don’t sleep with the subject of your articles. For him, don’t sleep with the journalist who can make or break your career.

I thought straight-laced Miles Cavanaugh followed all the rules...oh, how wrong I was.

Loved it BUT

I have been waiting for this book. Followed their relationship in the Kingsman series, but was disappointed in the narrators. First, let me say I am not a Tim Paige fan. I didn't think his voice fit the male character, and the female came off screeching at times. However, I did love the writing and the story, so it's worth the credit. It just could have been better.

Push and Pull Chemistry

Bryce has kept her heart locked up tight and Miles has wanted to let his heart free. These two have a hate relationship or so we thought. The more these two are thrown into each other’s path the more we learn there’s a fine line between love and hate and sometimes if you tell yourself that enough you may finally believe it or not.

Bryce has daddy issues and Miles is trying hard to get under skin. It’s a constant push and pull until they finally give in. The chemistry is scorching and once they let go it ignites like a fire. These two have more in common and really are perfect together.

Stefanie Kay is a new to me narrator and she did a fabulous job. Tim Paige was wonderful as Miles. I really enjoyed the duet narration it makes it that much enjoyable. This was a great listen with great narrators.

I’m looking forward to diving into the next book.

It’s a little better than ok

At first I wasn’t sure I was going to make it through this one. As much as I love Tim Paige, Cindy Kay almost completely ruins it all. She should stick to narrating children’s books not romance. Tim is the saving grace. Not my favorite story from Piper Rayne but it’s cute and light hearted.

Enemies to lovers ✔️
Great banter ✔️
Workplace romance ✔️
Swoony hero ✔️

Something Like Hate is the first book in the Chicago Grizzlies series. From the moment Miles and Bryce hit the scene with their hate lust, I knew I needed their story desperately. Of course, Piper Rayne did not disappoint one bit! Bryce is feisty and she doesn’t take any stuff. She’s also not to be underestimated because she’ll have you picking your face up off the floor. She’s heavily guarded and I loved watching her walls come down. You see a softer side of her and you empathize with her reasons why she has a shield up. Then there’s Miles. So dreamy. So sweet. So willing to fight for the woman he wants and make sacrifices to put her first. I loved how he wasn’t the typical player and he was so open and vulnerable with his heart. The banter, sexual tension, the found family feels, ooh how I just loved it. This is a great start to a series I already know I will love!
The audio has Tim Paige and Stephanie Kay performing and they are 🔥. The perfect Miles and Bryce!

Short and Sweet

This story was super cute, short and fun. I absolutely loved listening to it, both Stephanie Kay and Tim Paige did a phenomenal job on this duet narration audio book.

I thought Piper did a fantastic job of writing Miles + Brooke's chemistry, especially for such a short book. Their back and forth enemies to lovers was just perfect.

I'm really excited for the next book in this series. Damian is going to be such a handful and I can't wait. Really hoping we get Cooper and Ellen's story too!
