About this listen

It was supposed to be a fresh start. A small town where I could hide my little girl from the shadows that haunt us. A place where I could keep us safe.

The last thing I expected was him. A surly, broody mountain of a man who helps me save an injured deer in a snowstorm. Now, Roan Hartley keeps showing up with his glowers and grimaces. But they only make his rare smiles and the gentle way he talks to my daughter mean that much more. When forces from my past find us, Roan is determined to keep us safe—even if that means sleeping on my ancient couch every night.

As days turn to weeks, his touch has my walls crashing down. But someone out there doesn’t want me to find happiness. He doesn’t want me left breathing at all....

Loved everything about this book!

This story was amazing! Probably my favorite in the series so far. Honestly, they've all been my favorite! But this was the first one to actually make me tear up during the last hour of the book. The last chapter and epiloge just pulled at my heart strings. It was so great to see a happily ever after for Roen. The romantic suspense that Catherine Cowels writes is amazing, I did not see the twist coming. Maxine Mitchell and Zachary Webber knocked it out of the park with their narration. They both embodied their own characters as well as the every other character in the book. And I loved sweet Cady! Can't wait for Lawson's HEA!

Beautiful & Heartfelt~Exceptional Story & Listen🎧

It is great to be back in Cedar Ridge again for another exceptional Catherine Cowles’ novel. This story is incredible, and I loved and enjoyed every moment of it, from the heart pounding start to the heartwarming conclusion, and all in between. Aspen Barlow had to flee from her past with Cady, her infant daughter, and with minimal belongings. She moved to Cedar Ridge, got a job in the town’s coffee shop and cafe and is doing her best to give her daughter a good life and everything she needs. She and her daughter enjoy helping injured animals, and when they see an injured deer, she tries to get help for it. Unsure if any help was coming, she attempts to help it herself, but she gets startled when a deep voice questions what she is doing. That deep voice came from the Fish and Wildlife officer, Roan Hartley. Roan, who mostly keeps to himself, has a grumpy disposition, and with reason. He sees something in Aspen, something he recognizes because he it was something he had felt and he can relate. A call for an injured deer may have brought him to her, but it was not only the deer that had him coming back. It was Cady and Aspen, and I am not sure who won his heart first. It was great to watch Roan drop the walls he built around his heart and soften up his icy demeanor. When Aspen’s past comes back to haunt her, the first thing she wants to do is run, but Roan’s fierce protectiveness comes out and he vows to protect them both. There is also a spike in crime in Cedar Ridge, a killer on the loose, Lawson is on the case and is unsure if there is any connection to Aspen’s case or not. As always with Catherine Cowles’ books, the writing, plotting and world building is phenomenal, as is the character growth and development. It is a story that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This book has it all, drama, suspenseful storylines that keep you guessing and on your toes, charming and heartwarming moments that has you smiling and a romance that will make you swoon. Catherine Cowles, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧 📚🎧 And for the exceptional narration, Maxine Mitchell and Zachary Webber are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life. Their portrayal of these characters was superb, and the voices they gave each was fitting and they were believable in every role they played. Mitchell not only nailed it as Aspen, but as the absolutely adorable Cady, too, grasping her youth and innocence perfectly. Webber was spot on as Roan, grumpy demeanor and all. Both were just as fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling every single one. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and their narration enhances this already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

I loved this book so much! Roan and Aspen were perfect and I loved little Cady. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and couldn’t stop reading. The narrators were excellent too - both were perfect for their characters!

Oh My God

Why has no one shoved Catherine Cowles down my throat sooner?! I LOVED this! I think hearing it added to the suspense and unknown of it all. Roan and Aspen have my heart and Cady stole it from the first page! Will 100% be continuing the rest of the series and going back to books 1-3

One of my top favorites reads of the year!

Catherine has done it again! Wow did these narrators do a spectacular job of bringing Roan and Aspen to life.

I’ve been patiently awaiting Roan’s story since book 1, and then when it was confirmed that Aspen and Cady were going to be a part of his book, I was over the moon ecstatic.

What to expect:
•Grumpy x Sunshine
•Single Mom
•Broken Hero
•Forced Proximity
•Found Family
•Animal Sanctuary Shenanigans

I loved everything in this book…from the found family, the animals, the nicknames (IYKYK), the romantic suspense, the twists, and most importantly…Roan and Aspen. These two y’all!! Both have suffered past trauma, and those experiences have made them closed off and isolated. Roan and Aspen were truly meant for one another and they seriously gave me all the feels.

When Aspen’s safety is at risk, Roan is determined to keep her and Cady safe. I swooned so hard over how their relationship progressed and how they were able to start to trust each other and let people in…it was so heartwarming to experience.

I absolutely adore Cady. That little tutu rocking girl is full of sweetness, glitter, and has a heart of gold. The interactions between her and Roan made my heart so happy. There is nothing that I love more than watching a grumpy/broken hero melt over a mom and her child.

This was such a phenomenal story that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I love!

Aspen may be one of my favorite heroines, her selflessness, kindness and overall just how she shows her love is just so freaking good! Roan is this grumpy guy who loves his family but doesn’t show it often. The way he is with aspen and her daughter 🙌🏻 of course the suspense aspect was fantastic! I only figured it out right before everything happened.
Of course the audio was amazing! Jacob Morgan will always be my favorite narrator.

Loved The Whole Series

I enjoyed each one in this series. Waiting to listen to the oldest son's story. They each had obstacles in front of them but still came through. Narration was great on all.
