About this listen

Choose the one guy you can't have....

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas - the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she's in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody but Her.

Fall for him - hard…

Pub owner Finn O'Riley is six-foot-plus of hardworking hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don't ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it's what she wishes for at the historic fountain that's supposed to grant her heart's desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story - because Pru's been keeping a secret that could change everything....

You Gotta Love it, They Have Your Six

If you could sum up Sweet Little Lies in three words, what would they be?
This is like the tv series Cheers, everyone wants a place to go.
This is a good one and l almost passed it up as the publisher summary just didn’t do it for me.
Here is where all the good characters are told to you for the books to come.
You must be in the mood for great subtle humor Eg. “Hey Dude, hey Dudette!” From Eddy!

What other book might you compare Sweet Little Lies to and why?
See Archers story, yum, in this series.

Have you listened to any of Karen White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I am a great fan of ms white reading talent. I own all her Julie James and most Jill Shavis stories. They are not to be missed
I do use the new 1.25 speed to match the author’s intentions

Another series I'm entranced by...

So happy we have another sweet series from Shavis to make our hearts melt. There's great characters, sweet community, and love. I've already ordered the next book in the series and will continue to follow the lives of these quirky friends.

Wanted to throttle the heroine

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I liked that the author used domestic abuse as a theme in this story. It's good to get it out in the open so more women will feel confident to ask for help.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Not sure you would call my high blood pressure from frustration over how impulsive the heroine was. She seemed incapable of thinking anything through. Perhaps that made her more real to some readers. I just got frustrated and yelled at her a few times. :-)

What three words best describe Karen White’s performance?

Karen does contemporary romance well. She has a distinctive cadence to how she reads which works for most of the contemporary novels I've listened to her narrate.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

The heroine being less of a feather brain, reactive twit.

Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed this series. This book is my least favorite.

Fun story

I like this author because she always writes about witty funny heroines. This story was not the exception. Pru was looking for redemption for a wrong she actually didn't do (her dad did) and she spent years trying to make it up to the people that were affected by her dad's wrongdoing. Finn is one of those people but she ended up falling in love with him and things got very complicated. The story was funny, sweet and very romantic. The narration was very good as well. Very entertaining! I'll definitely be listening to book 2.

Loved how the #hashtags helped bring funny into each chapter along with the characters life antics. Loved Thor and small town feel.

Won't listen to this narrator again

I liked the story and liked the characters but not the narrator. Ruined the book for me.

The narrater was awful!

Performance:

The voice inflections the narrater has drove me nuts. Make sure and LISTEN to the sample to see if you can deal with her dramatic flare. I finally turned the reading speed to double so I didn't notice them as much and could finish the story.

The story:

Oh secret keeping. It's always painful. Such is the case for Pru. She is trying very hard to right the wrongs that were created by an accident when she was eighteen. Everyone who was hurt needs to be happy, except she overlooks herself in that little equation.

The darts. I do think she overreacted here. I wanted to tell her to get a grip but Finn does a good job of handling her. I do love Finn. He's trying to help his brother and run the pub that is his life now. A car accident when he was in college took their father - if you can call him that. Since then, Finn has tried to look out for Sean but his brother hasn't made it easy. Finn has a tight group of friends that are his family. He doesn't let anyone else in - until Pru showed up in his pub. Everyone in the group is surprised at Finn's reaction to her. He doesn't do relationships, not since...well he doesn't do relationships. So the group all wants to help. And let me tell you, this group finds out every little detail of what's going on...including the dumb waiter.

Oh yes, you have to read it for that part alone.

But there is this secret Pru has and it just drove me crazy. I wanted to shake her! Tell her to listen to Jake, who kept telling her to TELL HIM. Of course, she doesn't. Maddening. This is always the part about lies in books that makes me nuts. I'm just not a fan of this. Beside this little trait, I do like Pru. She's trying to help those that were hurt and she forgets herself all the time. I related to that a little too much. She deserves some happy too.

It's a sexy, fun read. Lots of laughs and some great yummy kissing...and more.

If you love those stories where the whole group of friends wants the couple together kinda books, then this is a great choice for you. It has a small town feel despite being in the city and I think the group does that. Everyone knows everyone's business including the embarrassing dumb waiter parts. Ha!
