The Illustrious Labor of Whores

This is the book that introduced the term “sex work” to the public, a new vision of prostitution articulated by sex workers themselves. It has never been equalled.

Sex Work presents a turning point collection of writings by street prostitutes, exotic dancers, nude models, escorts, porn stars, and massage parlor workers. Featuring voices from the vangaurd of the sex-positive movement.

Since publication in 1987, Sex Work has generated more discussion and has changed the language we use to talk about sex for money than any other publication to date.

Important Perspective

I found this book informative on perspectives I had not given adequate time to consider. I admit to having a new understanding that has swayed previously held stereotypes and myths. Thank you for this work.

Well that wasn't what I was thinking

Where does Sex Work rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My recommendations were skewed by True Porn Clerk Stories. I had kind of assumed this would be humorous anecdotes. I was wrong
There were some moments I laughed but it was far more conflicting. I listen mostly for escapism, this was kind of the opposite.

Any additional comments?

A good read. Maybe not what I wanted to hear but more what I should hear.

Are we lucky or what? Ab Eye Opener

Several narrators managed to keep an interisting story going. Several of the contributirs made it clear, that most poor women have no choice but to sell their bodies or starve. The overall economic climate across the world underpays women. So being male, white and from one of the more affluent countries ( often brought by theft, war, slavery ), I am blessed and the words of the interviewed woman made this very clear to me.

Sex Workers' Rights & Protection are Human Rights

Without monitored work places, the women and men in sex work worldwide are at the mercy of violent predators. A safe, legal place must be provided where sex workers can have the protection of law enforcement. Regulation of sex workers lets the law control who takes part in sex work, rather than to drive it out onto the street where nobody is safe.
