Publisher's summary

Julie Barton is in serious trouble. She recently discovered that her husband is a cheater. If that isn't bad enough, she also learned that the man she thought she knew and loved is deeply involved in illegal activities. When she walked out, determined to start over, she had no idea just how far the man who had vowed to love and to cherish her would go to make her sorry until she found him murdered - in her bed. Now, the only person who believes her story is, unfortunately for Julie, the one man with the most to gain from the murder.

Maybe 3 and a half stars..

Any additional comments?

This was a pretty good read/listen, with some very nice sexual tension and one sex scene. The storyline was interesting and somewhat exciting. Blake and Julie were both great characters, as was Marie, Cannon, Austin and Randall. Even though it really didn’t make any sense that the ME put Julie’s husband’s time of death at 2:00 and she had all kinds of witnesses saying she didn’t even leave work until 2:00, even a cop was a witness. Plus, they were getting a divorce so why would she invite him to her apartment and shoot him? That would have been a ticket to prison. So, that was silly. There was murder and shoot-outs so it kind of made up for the silly events.

As to the narrator: He did good in some places and terrible in others. He didn’t do a good job on the women’s voices but he read with great emotion. My biggest complaint was that he did sound a little tipsy, or he just reads slurring his words. I’m not sure I would listen to him again. He only has 2 books he’s narrated and I listened to the sample of the other one and it was fine. So, I don’t know.

Romanctic Suspense!

Debra Webb comes through with a suspenseful story with a hint of romance. Julie is the estranged spouse of wealthy Austin Barton. Blake is a detective gone rogue looking for his brother's killer. Circumstances bring these two together in a plot of murder and greed. When Austin ends up dead in Julie's bed, the only person who can help prove her innocence is Blake. Will these two be able to find the murderer? Will Blake get the closure he needs? And will their love stand the investigation? Webb's short is a fun listen, though at time predictable. Narrated by Terrence McGovern, thrilling suspense and intrigue take us through their tumultuous story.

Don't bother

I reviewed this book and it got pretty good reviews but I thought the story was lame and predictable. Not crazy about the narrator either.

Writing is juvenile. Narrator sounds drunk.

Well I can't say I enjoyed this story very much. The writing was very juvenile. The characters were somewhat fake. The romance seemed to be put in the story and the chemistry was forced and didn't feel genuine at all. There is a very mild written sex scene that also seemed like it was thrown in too.

The story line and plot had potential but the book seemed like it was written by a high school student. Not very good, to be honest,

There is a lot of dialogue so there is that. I like lots of dialogue.

As for the narration? WOW this guy sounds like he has a very bad case of dry mouth, and was a bit drunk, buzzed or something. He didn't do a very good job at the female voices either. It was not a pleasant listen to be sure. I will pass on this narrator in the future.

Luckily this was a free KU book and the audible was 1.99 it should have been free for both. I cannot recommend this story or this narration. Sorry.
