About this listen

There are many stories about regular girls meeting a prince, falling in love, and living happily ever after...blah, blah, blah. This is not that story.

As a lowly Baron’s daughter, I sit on the outskirts of the noble circle, watching the royal family from afar: exactly where I’d rather be. To me, that world was anything but magical or fantasy. While their lives were under a relentless microscope, controlled by traditions and expectations, I was the girl dreaming about becoming a veterinarian and surrounding myself with animals instead of people.

A wallflower who suddenly bloomed, I somehow nabbed the attention of the arrogant, but undeniably handsome, Theodore Alexander Philip Robert David Livingston. The Prince of Great Victoria. I never imagined falling in love with a prince, but I did.

When Theo comes back from the Royal Air Force with an extremely sexy, but extremely arrogant new bodyguard, Lennox Easton, everything is flipped upside down. Tattooed, mysterious, and cruel, our mutual hatred for each becomes even more complicated when I move into the palace, becoming the official girlfriend of Prince Theo, and now under Lennox’s watch. Thrown into a society which controls my every move, social media viciously coming after me, and paparazzi looking for any juicy gossip, my world becomes a cage. Gilded or not, my life becomes nothing like I imagined. I find myself turning to the very last person I should.

When family secrets start to surface from the past, old enemies come for revenge, along with blackmail, forbidden love, and devastating revelations. Everything is set to bring me down and even take my life. I knew loving a prince would come with sacrifices, but when you give up everything...when does the fairy tale become a nightmare?

Watch out! This Book Will Capture You.

I was immediately captured by the tale of royal love but then immersed myself in intrigue and romance, protocol and longing, suspense and scandal. So much going on, I couldn’t put it down. Perfect narration to compliment a great story.

great story but slightly predictable

This was a great story. Spencer was a young girl caught up in the royal life due to her BF being a prince but that's not the life she wanted. The addition of Lennox as her bodyguard added a wrench to her relationship with the royals. Her horrible uncle, weak family and angst with the media made the story even better. Her realization that she wasn't the same person was a game changer. The ending made the story even better. I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could

Love triangle

I’m just a sucker for happy ending. I dislike how she is using Theo. Clearly the day he came back to see her she was already attractive to his bodyguard. She should of simply said that she was not ready to go public with him. But go public in 3 or 5 years. After she date around with other guys.

Brilliant!!

What an AMAZING love story! And trust me, I'm not a fan of them. Usually so cheesy and full of false drama...
This series gripped my heart and kept me wanting more. Truly a beautiful story, full of anguish, drama and LOVE. Bravo!!

Royal watch

Loved the adventure of being a teenager, desiring that, and yet, forces to grow into an image Spencer is not ready for. I hate her uncle for his selfishness and wonder how many men like the duke are out there prying on young girls because of their power and position. I enjoyed the first so much, I am adventuring into book two. Can’t wait to see what happens with Spencer and the decisions she has to make.

Why I couldn't finish this book...

I just couldn't finish this book. The main character was remarkably against the 'roles of the monarchy from early on'. It was annoying to find her complaining 🙄 & not being as moved towards helping other people as much as her affections towards animals. I hope she can realize that she can find her freedoms in a second, secret role, just as the princess has discovered for herself.

Sad to realize how unaware, unprepared & selfish that the main character is written to be. I wish that she had been written differently so that she wasn't so attracted to the man who is not the Prince and so dependent on alcohol to get her through. [<-Not wanting to reveal the 'whom' that she also yearns for.]

Perhaps she changes & proves that she can present herself in the way she needs to publicly. Then she realizes that freedom is still possible but just not publicly. Seems obvious & something a young woman dating a Prince should have known about before ever dating him. I think her surprise & discomfort goes on a bit too long in the story before she gets into the roles that would make her feel better about everything.

Also frustrating about the main character is her mental/emotional unfaithfulness to the Prince even before the middle of the book. The book has been extremely well written & edited, and the characters of the book are given lots of depth of personality & growth potential. This isn't a bad book, by any means. I'm just feeling impatient & don't have any more credits/money to read the next book. I hope my storyline impatience is understood.

Royal with struggling love.

I liked it. I guess I like more in depth. More serious characters. It was good but not a series for me. I would have preferred 1 book. But it was 👍

Just keep reading it gets better

The beginning was a little hard to get through but the story gets better at the end chapters. I have a hard time with Spencer’s poor attitude constantly throughout the book. Definitely interested in the next book

I was Captivated

Format: Audiobook narrator: Samantha Hydeson
A Royal Love triangle.
A young girl , Spencer, falls in love with a prince (Theo) the next to be king, and is caught up in a life she did not want for herself and felt trapped to remain in; then she is assigned a hotter than hell bodyguard, Lennox, (now life got complicated).
I wasn’t planning on reading this book. (So glad I did)… I wasgoing to the next book of the Savage Lands series and I must have hit the wrong title and this book played instead. (Computer glitch) ?
After allowing it to play the first 2 chapters it was too late to stop and I was Captivated! I do believe I have found another Favorite Author (Stacey Marie Brown). I am loving her writing style. Her story telling resonates with me and draws me into her created worlds.
This is a Royals book and I expected trash and instead got a real story. The narrator has a melodic voice with a gentle, regale accent. I am no Royal or Historical fan but I like a well told story. This story is like a Sunday drive on a long country road. There are a few hills and turns but no potholes. Excitement is built on the anticipation that something is bound to happen. Once you reach your destination (the end of the book) I was left, overwhelmed and racing to borrow money from my son to get the next book. LOL How can this story seem to purr along yet cause me to get so caught up in these characters? (Good Storytelling)
On to book2 of 2 Royal Command
