About this listen

When I was four years old, my inept biological parents decided they wanted to summon a demon.

They planned to summon one and control him so they could gain riches. However, they didn't realize you can't control a demon, you can only enter into an agreement with them, and so their demon was able to walk out of the summoning circle that they didn't close properly.

They intended to summon a lesser demon, what they got was Abaddon the Destroyer, the angel of the abyss, king of the plagues, and all that evil stuff.

He took me back to hell with him and handed me over to Lucifer, who trained me to be a demon hunter.

I didn't have the swing set in the back yard, the toy box in the corner full of toys, a bicycle, or skateboard. I had daggers, knives, and books that list all demons and their powers, lessons to create pentagrams, sigils and wards, instructions on sending demons back to hell and maintaining a mind link with Lucifer.

They say a second war is coming. Most call it the second coming of our Father.

My name is Kastor Blackwood. I've been chosen to prevent that war.

Start of a Very Different Series

This story was very different from the fantasy novels we usually read and told from a very different perspective than we are used to. The Audible description did pretty well with this book in summing up the plot of the book. It was a little on the short side, but that isn't necessarily bad. It did end in a cliffhanger, which I generally hate out of principal, but I plan to continue with the next book.

The narrator did a very good job. I hope he narrates any future books in the series.

Interesting idea

For the most part I liked the story except the narration which just didn't work for me. The character voices grated on me but I have to admit they were interesting, especially the voices for the demons. I recommend listening to the sample before purchasing.

I'm interested to see where this story will go next so I'll be looking for the next book as an ebook. This first book was great for setting the scene and introducing the main characters. Some mystery, some action and lots of character building, it's a good start to a hopefully interesting series.

A Different Kind of Hell Boy

This has a great plot and great character potential, although neither of those quite grabbed me the way I wanted them to. The story line itself was quite good and the main character was quite unique. How everything played out was where I lost interest. I wanted to like the main character but his dialogue just didn’t work for me. I wanted to like Grayson but he was a stoner based off the narration and that just didn’t fit the story. I just couldn’t get into either of them and since they are the main characters it made for a tough listen.
I really wanted this story to come through as a big good versus evil story. Instead it came off as a bit of a low budget science fiction film. Since this story really setup the background and introduced the characters it really needed to be stronger in that aspect to really build excitement for the next chapter. I am glad that I listened to the story and I hope that things really come together in the next stories.
This is a quick story and only the beginning and actually ends right as the action is about to really start. Big cliff hanger so be prepared to get the next book to find out how things go.
The narrator took me a bit to get into but he did a great job with the character voices and really brought the story to life. The only voice that didn’t work was Grayson’s. The demon voices were excellent.

Great story

If you could sum up Revelation in three words, what would they be?

It could happen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kastor because he is trying to prevent world destruction.

What does David S. Dear bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Many different voices. He added life to each of the characters and gave a different voice to each one so you always knew when the characters changed during the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Hell on Earth

Demons as Saviors

Kastor knows his human parents were idiots who tried to sacrifice him to a demon for wealth and power. What he doesn’t know is why Lucifer took him in and trained him to be a demon hunter. He is about to find out, though, and just in time to find out why Lucifer let him live in the underworld from 4 years old to age 20.

This was an okay listen. The narration, I’m sorry to say, detracted from the quality of the story for me. The voices were varied but some were overdone and others were just annoying or silly sounding. The dialogue was also repetitive and annoying (Lucifer continuously and, after 4 plus hours, irritatingly refers to Kastor as ‘boy’ among other things).

This is a good premise for a good vs evil story, but for me, could use a good rewrite, some editing, and an upgrade to the dialogue. With Lucifer appearing to be reasonable and under siege and the explanation of people having free will to choose their path, it should have been intriguing. Unfortunately, it didn’t work in my opinion.

Repetitive

New angle on Revelations so that's cool.
Where are the proof readers, the editors that would cut unnecessary retelling and recapping every now and than about what's going on or about our main protagonist.

A little juvenile language, from the protagonist to the friend of his who from the dialogue sounds like a surfer weed smoker and a little dense.
Our protagonist is a bad trainer and cant keep any secrets especially sense that abodon angel or whatever his name is said how important it is that the seals not be revealed of who they were and where they were located and the first thing he does is tell everyone.

Stupid, I really had to power through the ending because my mind was like enough stop, since my New Years resolution is to finish things no matter how ridiculous I did it.
The narration was pretty good without the narration I'd give it a 2 for contradictory.
