About this listen

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes. Five of this year's freshmen are extra special. They have a secret aside from their abilities - one that they must guard from even their classmates.

For every one person in the world with abilities they can control, there are three who lack such skill. These lesser super beings - Powereds, as they are called - have always been treated as burdens and second-class citizens. Though there has been ample research in the area, no one has ever succeeded in turning a Powered into a regular human, let alone a Super.

That is, until now....

Fun book. Harry Potter in tights

I liked the book, Fun and imaginative twist on the superhero genre. I thought the dialogue was a bit cumbersome in the flow at times but overall great. I will definitely read the next.

Engrossing serialized super-hero fiction

I was quickly drawn into Super-Powereds and listened happily through all 26 hours. Mr. Hayes offers us an interesting super-heroic world, spends just enough time exploring its features and nuances, and balances it nicely with enjoyable characters and interesting overlapping story-arcs. The original writing was published as an ongoing serial and it reads that way, like a comic book series, with short story arcs that resolve quickly, a long running plot that flows through the whole book, and many mid-sized plots that resolve in several chapters. The characters are young, convincing, and and fun. If you're a super-hero fan who likes a long game, this is a great series for you.

Mr. McCarley's narration is quite good, his range of voices for a huge cast of characters is impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed Year 1 and rushed back to Audible to pick up Year 2 as soon as I was finished.

They said, so I said

The book isn't bad I enjoyed the story. I'm sure it's ment for a younger audience. As college feels more like middle school. Worse part of the book is the fact that it states who's speaking ....a lot.

Good story, needs editing

Good narration and nice story line, but the book desperately needed a thorough editing to clean it up. The constant, he said, she said, he said..... detracted from an otherwise fun story to listen to.

Fun!

This is a fun listen. Nothing not to like about it, especiially on long drives up and down California. This book is a coming of age story for 5 teens, and it did not consider it a juvenile story. There is a lot of nuance here. I don't want to spoil the listen. Just get it and enjoy.

This series was FANTASTIC!!!

I'm honestly having listeners remorse after finishing this series. The storyline was wonderful, and the narrator was amazingly fantastic with his voices. Made my days at work fly by. I really hope he decides to come back to this world again.

Good story, rough start

Give it a chance... It picks up. The narrator is ok, takes a while to get used to, but he grew on me.

A truly super book

I have liked many of Drew's books, but I think this series will be my favorite. I love how fleshed out the characters are. You really get involved in a series like this. Thanks and keep'em coming:)

Amazing Story/ World crafting and Great Narrator

Truly an Epic start of a series. So many different characters, that any reader can find one that makes them feel like they too are attending the college.

Perfect choice of a narrator. Every character is given a distinct and rich voice that really brings them to life.

This book is a great combination of college life and hero training. It’s an adventure while you’re following heroes as they become heroes. You get to learn about their world while enjoying situations that come up at college-age. Drew Hayes has developed a fun experience for readers. You develop an attachment to these characters as they strive to graduate.
