About this listen
Rescue is the 11th book of a series of near-future scifi thrillers whose young heroine Ell Donsaii has a nerve mutation that makes her a genius, providing her with some astonishing athletic abilities. In Rescue, President Stockton tells the FBI to tone down its efforts to imprison Ell. Unfortunately, the SCDF, a group of ultraconservative survivalists now has the President in their sights. Their attack on the president succeeds far beyond anyone’s imagination. Could it be that Stockton’s very life will now depend on the woman she has been imprisoning and harassing?
Meanwhile, Stell Simsworth, the 10-year-old blind singing sensation, is hoping that Ryan will be able to use his technology to restore her eyesight. Carter is working on a project to colonize Mars (despite his daughter’s cogent observation that a colony would have high risks, but provide few benefits).

Story
Quicker is a near-future SciFi/Thriller whose young heroine, Ell Donsaii, is an intrepid athletic phenom who reminds one of David Weber's Honor Harrington. Like Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Ell is also a mathematical genius who, instead of counting sheep, works on her own theory of quantum mechanics to help her drift off to sleep. At once shy and concerned about her social skills, yet well loved by those around her, she finds herself at the center of a terrorist plot at the Olympics.

Story
This hard sci-fi novel is the first book of the Time-Flow Stories, a series of tales about Witt Ryllin, a young man who abruptly gains the ability to psychically control the flow of time. He sets to work, figuring out how to use his new gift to help his family and perhaps even improve his college prospects. This is far from as easy as he’d first hoped. Through all this he must deal with his sarcastic friend Jesse. A friend who’s sometimes helpful, but at least as often a big part of the problem. Oh, and Witt’s got girl trouble!

Story
A "prehistorical-fiction" novel about a boy prodigy in a primitive caveman society. First he reduces a dislocation of his own finger, then works out how to "set bones" for others who’re injured. Like Jean Auel's Ayla, he discovers other primitive technologies, including trapping, smoking meat, and the domestication of a wolf. His mastery of these skills gradually elevates his previously despised and downtrodden position in their society - until he becomes highly respected and admired. And, falls in love with the girl he didn’t dream could love him back....

Story
Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

yet another fun story
The saying of "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." is shown in this tale.
Laura Bannister again does a fine job.
I am consistently impressed dahners Medical, Technical, and Scientific background understanding. They simply make his writings that much more of a pleasure to read or listen to.
I own the Vaz series in four in Kindle and the three Audible releases. In the El Donsai series sixteen in Kindle and now eleven in Audible.
Definitely a young, fun, entertaining, and weirdly informative writings.

Pretty Much Perfect
Whatever credit Laurence E. Dahners gets for crafting these masterfully written, high-tech, sci-fi adventures, it ain’t enough. The joy he and narrator Laura Bannister have brought me over the course of daily commutes to and from work cannot be overestimated, and these stories are real gems. This particular novel, Rescue, has all the elements one might hope for in an Ell Donsaii story — a little romance, a little tech-wizardry, some exciting action scenes, and a bit of series-arching plot points to move the series forward. I will acknowledge the Mary Sue-ness of Dahner’s central protagonist (as well as some others) and say, simply, so what about it? Dahner’s writing provides a much needed counterbalance to all of the let’s-torture-the-hero stories out there. Enough said for now.
