About this listen

VBI (Vermont Bureau of Investigation) head Joe Gunther and his team are called in to investigate a series of violent deaths that appear unrelated until telltale clues reveal a linkage between them and that all of the deaths are, in fact, murders. However, apart from a single drop of unexplained blood left at each crime scene, there are no obvious connections between the victims or the cases.

In the search for the elusive truth, the VBI must plumb the depths of every suspect's past, every victim's most intimate details, and examine each piece of evidence down to the smallest detail - an examination which includes a trip to the Brookhaven National Lab and an exploration of cutting edge forensic technology.

Sad ending 😢

I didn’t expect that ending, at least involving that person’s demise. The last line did give me hope for the next book.

Great story

The only thing that would have made me like this book better is if Tom Taylorson had been the narrator. I loved how we were introduced to each murder victim got a chance to like them and then tragedy.

Loved all the feels...

I thought this was one of the best books in the series, so far...though, I really hated the loss of one of my favorite characters.
I REALLY don't like Dufris' character depictions... they were pretty terrible, very cartoon-like, and lost the depth of personality and plot created by Taylorson. Straight narration was mostly ok, but I had to slog through the performance to appreciate the writing itself. I'm glad only a few in the series use this narrator.

Excellent storyline

Good narrator but not Tom, he has made these characters his own. Hard to listen to anyone else

Engaging, Bittersweet!

Engaging, turn-twisting, tragic, but predictable ending. (I am typing more words, because these pain-in-the-asses are forcing me to type at least 15 words!) 😡

You want vocal fry with that?

The absolute worst voice-cracking, vocal fry narration is reserved for the main character, a voice you hear a lot of. It’s like Joe Gunther suddenly had to go through puberty later in life. Painful to listen to which is a shame because Dufris is a good reader, except for a little too much vocal fry, with anything.
Good story. Loved the science. Loved the well thought out plots and characters as usual.
Some reviews make way too much of narration and I usually can get through anything. This is the first time I considered stopping because the voices were too annoying. Imagine a whole book narrated by Foghorn Leghorn or Yosemite Sam.

Narration Different

Though the Narration was good the Character voices were decidedly different and difficult to enjoy after all the previous audio books had a different and original narrator. Joe Gunther’s new voice was just plan bad.
