Always a surprise

Just as you think you've got the plot twists figured out you don't. Rick Riordan's character of Tres Navarre has a great self deprecating sense of humor. all of the characters are real, and in the end compelling. and the narration is superb. I am sorry this series has come to an end.

A Sealed Room Mystery for Tres

What did you like best about this story?

This is a classic "sealed room" mystery. Everyone is trapped on the island and one by one they start ending up dead. Whodunit??? It's so very Agatha Christie. I loved it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Once again, Tres' brother Garrett becomes a fully realized character, which greatly adds to the emotional depth of the book. Tres' flashbacks to his childhood visits to the island do that as well. Not that it's deep-deep, because you know, Agatha Christie.

Any additional comments?

The storm descriptions are terrific, especially at the lighthouse. And I for one did not figure out the villain until the very end.

Slow start

Good story but slow going and predictable. Really enjoyed his other books and looking forward to more books from Riordan.

Foul language a turn off.

I am a fan of the Kane Chronicles and Percy Jackson. This 1950ish detective book would have been much better if there was less foul language. I know that drug lord books are from the darker side but even the old 50 genre detective stories did not swear this much. I don't think it added to the book.

Rick Is Great

The reader sounds like I would like Tres to sound. Good selection of a reader. The book is excellent. I am a Rick Riodan fan and loved to go to sleep with the lights off listening to this book being read. Please do some more Rick Riodan for all of his fans.

final book in the series it's worth it

the author is long since abandoned any desire to come back to these characters so I doubt that we'll ever see anything again. a little disappointed that there won't be things anymore but I think the author was getting bored with the series. it is what it is I mean if I was him I would be focusing in on his children's fantasy books as well plus he's left his Texas roots and it's California experience long behind him he's in Boston now so the reality of the poverty and things that he was surrounded when he was teaching is gone. good for him right....

It can't be the end.

Tres can get into trouble anywhere. Great story with plenty of twists and hints but still leaves you guessing. There needs to be another book due to too many loose ends.
