About this listen

Librarian Lucy Richardson unearths a mysterious map dating back to the Civil War. But if she can’t crack its code, she may end up read and buried.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse Library Classic Novel Book Club is reading Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne while workers dig into the earth to repair the Lighthouse Library’s foundations. The digging halts when Lucy pulls a battered tin box containing a Civil War-era diary from the pit. Tucked inside is a hand-drawn map of the Outer Banks, accompanied by a page written in an indecipherable code.

The library is overrun by people clamoring to see the artifact. Later that night, Lucy and Connor McNeil find the body of historical society member Jeremy Hughes inside the library. Clearly Jeremy was not the only one who broke into the library - the map and the coded page are missing.

Lucy’s nemesis, Louise Jane McKaughnan, confesses to entering the library after closing to sneak a peek but denies seeing Jeremy - or his killer. When Lucy discovers that fellow-librarian Charlene had a past with Jeremy, she’s forced to do what she vowed not to do - get involved in the case. Meanwhile, the entire library staff and community become obsessed with trying to decode the page. But when the library has a second break-in, it becomes clear that someone is determined to solve that code.

Glad To Have This Title Back!

I had this book before in my other Amazon Audible account my Mom made me and her on her account before she died, and I’m glad that I have this title for free in my own Audible Premium Membership back without using credits, since it told me that it was included in my membership! The best part about this book, the evil Library Board Members we all suspected, were the criminals in the story that stole the valuable Civil War stuff!

LOVE THE LIGHTHOUSE MYSTERIES

THIS LATEST RELEASE IN THE SERIES DID NOT DISAPPOINT. IT WAS CHAOTIC, AT TIMES, BUT ONLY IN KEEPING WITH THE STORYLINE WHERE EVERYONE IS OUT TO FIND THE "HIDDEN TREASURE." WE GET A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON SOME FAMILIAR CHARACTERS. I DO HOPE WE GET A LITTLE MORE MOVEMENT IN THE LUCY/CONNOR RELATIONSHIP IN THE NEXT BOOK. I HAD FUN LISTENING AND WAS LEFT WANTING MORE. WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK?

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy

Although the series is good, the characters do leave much to be desired. I cannot imagine a grown woman who isn’t able to ever stand up for herself with a busy body, and yet she can go toe to toe with a murderer over and over. Are we to believe that if you are a proper southern lady you can’t tell people to leave your home? If someone showed up at my home at 10 pm uninvited, I’d have no problem telling them to get lost. You have a man who pretends to be English and no one calls him on it? A woman who butts into a business meetings uninvited and whom no one tells her to leave? Please. Just please. A more realistic approach would be welcome.

Interesting Cozy Mystery, in a Good Series

Liked the story with a good cast of repeat characters. As always the mystery is solved by an overlooked clue.

Good who done it

I love all the books in this series. There are some great aspects like the cat >^^< Charles. The descriptions of the outer banks, library activities, neat history and things like that. Always a interesting curvy storyline.

I’m always super frustrated with elements of the stories but I love this authors way of writing everything so much that I finish every story. I’m hoping the workers of the library wise up some point soon for being scholarly kinds of people.
