Publisher's summary

Aleksandra Daniels hasn't set foot in the quiet seaside town of Bellamy Bay, North Carolina, in over 20 years. Ever since her mother's tragic death, her father has mysteriously forbidden her from visiting her aunt and cousins. But on a whim, Alex accepts an invitation to visit her estranged relatives and to help them in their family business: an herbal apothecary known for its remarkably potent teas, salves, and folk remedies.

Bellamy Bay doesn't look like trouble, but this is a town that harbors dark secrets. Alex discovers that her own family is at the center of salacious town gossip and that they are rumored to be magical healers descended from mermaids. She brushes this off as nonsense until a local is poisoned and her aunt Lidia is arrested for the crime. Alex is certain Lidia is being framed, and she resolves to find out why.

Alex's investigation unearths stories that some have gone to desperate lengths to conceal: forbidden affairs, family rivalries, and the truth about Alex's own ancestry. And when the case turns deadly, Alex learns that not only are these secrets worth hiding, but they may even be worth killing for.

Fun, lighthearted read, but predictable plot

This is a great book to listen to when you want something not super serious but still a mystery. I enjoyed it enough to go ahead and read the second one. But sometimes I was frustrated with how many things the characters missed in the story in solving the mystery.

A Spell for Trouble

I absolutely loved this book - it was referred to my by a friend and I am usually into Crime and Non Fiction but decided to purchase it on audible. Wow what a really nice and enjoyable book I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the narrater Emily Durante she actually made the book for me with all the different accents.

For a nice and enjoyable book with spells and for all ages I would highly recommend this book. I have just purchased Esme Addisons' - Book 2.

Enjoyable

This story contains a few loveable characters, especially Menka. I came for the mermaid story line, but have listened more than once because I enjoy listening to the carefree nature of this story.

Loved it! A new favorite cozy mystery series.

I really loved this audiobook. The narrator does a good job with all of the voices and accents. I felt like I was really in the story. I could see the small town of Bellamy Bay, the apothecary, the beach... And the story itself was also good. I couldn't guess who did it - was actually a big surprise. And I enjoyed getting to know the characters of the story. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Fresh spin on magic!

What do you get when you cross a murder with magic and mermaids? Just the best backstory on a family of witches with a crime solving main character. I have to admit I was skeptical about the mermaid link but Esme Addison made it all work beautifully. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.

The narration of this book also really worked for me for. Emily Durante gave a wonderful performance that I really enjoyed.

I recommend this author and narrator to all the cozy mystery lovers that enjoy a side a magic to help their crime solvers find the killer!

Witches & Mermaids Helping small town folks

Very light reading. The magical folks of the Enchanted Bay introduce a niece to their life. Using their magic for good. There is also a power struggle between magically families.

A WELCOME NEW VOICE IN PARANORMAL COZIES

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS FIRST IN A NEW SERIES. THE SETTING, THE CHARACTERS, THE STORYLINE WERE ALL PURE PLEASURE. IT EVEN MANAGED TO PACK IN A FEW TWISTS THAT TOOK ME BY SURPRISE. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BELLAMY BAY ADVENTURE.
