Publisher's summary

He corners me in an alley. An assassin. A killer of killers. A usurped king.

The Moonlight Wraith is hungry to regain his stolen throne, and he claims I have the magic he needs to secure his vengeance.

He must have lost his sanity along with his kingdom, because the only true ability I possess is wielding my smart mouth at times I shouldn't. So I do what any drunk human trying to survive in a supernatural world might do—I throw up on his shoes.

Despite my attempts to refuse the sexy fae, I soon find myself sucked into his war—and lost in his penetrating silver stare. The way he looks at me makes it seem like he wants me for more than just revenge. But how could a powerful fae king fall for a lowly human outcast like me?

I'm no queen.

And once he figures that out, my heart won't be the only casualty.

Contains mature themes.

Great Story But It Could Be Phenomenal with a Better Actress

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I love the flashes of humor the sensuality and the suspense. The only thing I did not like about this book was the female actress who sounded like she was whining the whole time she was reading every scene.

She sounded like a victim the whole time. A person with low self-esteem which is fine except she could at least sound like she was enjoying sensual time with the male lead, but she sounded like she was whining even then.

She whined when she was happy.
She whined when she was standing up for herself.

The story was so good but I almost stopped listening to it because of how annoying the female reader was but I like audio books so that I can exercise and get entertainment at the same time.

Inconsistencies with book 1

This was my first book from this author and there were things I liked and things that didnt quite hit as hard for me. Overall a 4/5 stars for the story and audio and would definitely reread/relisten when jumping back into this shared universe. This has been my least favorite of the stories so far and I think it probably would have been better if I had read it instead of listening unfortunately.

Let’s start with the audio, I loved the male narrator. I thought he exuded the right stuff for his character. He had an air about him, and the performance was done so well. I could imagine the fallen fae king in my head as he spoke. He made him sexy, dangerous, also pigheaded haha. I enjoyed his rendition. The female narrator on the other hand was not my favorite. I liked her better than some of the other reviewers but she definitely went OTT too much for me with Rowe. Thought she did ok with the evil Queen and she made Adora and Dani sound screechy sometimes. The other side characters were done well, I felt they were believable and got the personalities right, like the coworkers at Rowe’s job haha.

Story was good but wasnt as strong as book 1 in this series of interconnected standalones. I would definitely recommend reading/listening to them in order. It helps keep all the characters straight and the relationships and factions can get confusing with all the crossing between them all haha.
I liked Rowe and her latent power was cool and felt bad with how things went down for her in her past and her family. I felt like not all things weren’t answered but oh well. I was annoyed with our king with how he treated her. I did snort a bit with laughter when he couldnt help himself and stay away. Like try to deny it all you want buddy haha. I know they started their relationship off on the wrong foot but I did enjoy how things came together and their HEA. I liked the Rowe gave it right back to Volker and vice versa. I really wish this series was spicier, I didn’t appreciate how they limit it to slow burn. It didnt even need to be sexy times, it could have been more intimacy to help bridge the long gap til things happened.

I will say I wish these authors talked more amongst each other with the consistencies between books. Two of the main characters in this one were vastly different than their portrayal in book 1. They were vicious in book 1 and then somehow because a father figure and bestie in this one. I mean their ends are rough/unexpected but my brain was hurting trying to forget about some things in book 1 because of how it didnt connect/was the complete opposite of this story/character development.

Overall I would give it 4 stars but there were too many inconsistencies and the audio kept me from giving it a 5 stars.

The Betrayal

This might’ve been better if I’d read it rather than listened. The female narrator made the MFC seem very whiney. She had a decent mimic for the MMC voice, but this was primarily told from the MFC’s perspective. I would’ve liked to see more from him. Following the first book in this series, it was kind of disappointing. The first book was incredible. That said, this is a different author and different writing style. While the MMC oozed sex appeal, the MFC was very awkward and embarrassing as well as very juvenile. There wasn’t much spice and when the spice hit it left much to be desired. The betrayal at the end though. WOW.
