About this listen

If you can’t stand the heat, don’t fall for a firefighter....

Fire Chief Lincoln Reed is known for his heroics in the fire department and in the bedroom. Life is a never-ending good time. Until she lands in the middle of the accident scene he’s working...and then his backyard. Too bad she’s immune to flirty first responders.

Flight trauma surgeon Mackenzie O’Neil is on a crash course with burnout. She’s got a scar on her face and a shake in her hands. A temporary job as a small-town family physician is just the prescription. She’ll learn to meditate. Sleep more. Take up gardening.

She definitely won’t take her shirtless, firefighting neighbor’s hot body for a test drive.

But Linc and his tattoos are very persuasive. What’s a harmless little adrenaline-fueled fling between neighbors? It’s all naked fun and games until the shadows from Mack’s past find their way into her present. Can Linc be her hero when she needs him the most or will their scars ruin everything?

One thing is certain: Someone is going to get burned.

Author’s Warning: This small-town happily-ever-after is smokin’ hot, sweetly hilarious, deliciously suspenseful, and a one-two punch to the feels. One-click for a disaster dog, precocious kids, a good ol’ fistfight, nosy neighbors, high-adrenaline first responder heroics, firefighter bromance, and kitchen sexytimes.

Hero Live Story with st÷eam :)

This was gripping from the very first chapter of hero action to the last. The steam in this book was hotter than the previous 2 books of the series. Lucy saved the hottest steam for last.

Performance of Narration

The only negative thing I have to say about this audio book is that the audio narrator was absolutely distracting. I felt like I was listening to an old-timey prospector. So distracting that I almost stopped listing and did fast forward through a lot of the book.

Doctor & Chief Firefighter 🖤

Oh my gosh I loved this book so much! I loved everything about the characters, the story line. It was perfection! I wish it was in dual narration but it still was amazing!

Protecting what’s mine

Oh my! I absolutely loved Linc and Macs story. It was sooooo worth the wait! The depth behind Linc, what everyone sees vs who he truly is. Mac picking herself up and becoming something/someone with her background. How she ties in with Luke and Aldo. Lucy Score is a masterminding Genius with all her little tie bits and Easter eggs that all come full circle.

5 Shooting Stars!

Natalie Duke lends so much emotion to this thrilling romance! I love her narration!
From the first heart-pounding chapter to the last sweet words, this book captured my attention and my heart. When Fire Chief Lincoln Reed first sees Doctor Mackenzie O’Neill step off a helicopter at a horrific crash scene he is smitten, and so was I! Chief Sexy Pants and Doc Dreamy are two of my favorite characters ever. They are both smart, complicated, strong, confident, scarred, and vulnerable. They both know what they want, but will they end up wanting the same thing? Transient Mack and hometown hero Linc are so much more than I expected, I loved their rocky road to love!
This book is exciting, funny, sweet, heart-pounding, and incredibly sexy! I loved going on the ride-along that is Protecting What’s Mine!

Well-woven story, a couple to cheer for (mostly)

I really enjoyed this story, and the narration was superb. It is a long romance, but the end is worth the wait. The only thing I didn't like about this book was a matter of personal tastes.

I don't want to spoil anything, and I do LOVE this book boyfriend (Linc), but I don't find it hot in any way, shape, or form when a man tells a woman what she will and will not do with her life, whether she is his girlfriend or wife, and I found it especially eyebrow-raising that the woman (who has a military background) was completely OK with him telling her how it's going to be. He lost a lot of "hot-points" when that happened and I generally felt less strongly about the story after that point.

Still, it was a lovely, fun story.

I'm just personally not into women being "claimed," then bossed around and controlled by their partners. Seen it too much in real life, it's not sexy.
