In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables. My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit". Flash forward five years and between tenses. President West is in office. Power has shifted. And Space Force is defunded. With just a handful of us still living on base, we find ourselves being evicted. Story
Lincoln Miller, an ex-Navy SEAL turned NCIS special agent, is sent to Aquarius, the world’s only sub-oceanic research facility, located off the Florida Keys, to investigate reports of ocean dumping. A week into his stay, strange red flakes descend from the surface. Scores of fish are dead and dying, poisoned by the debris that turns to powder in Miller’s fingers and tastes like blood. Miller heads for the surface, ready to fight whoever is polluting on his watch. But he finds nothing. No ships. No polluters.... No oxygen.

Origin story
I’ve only listened to one other Chess Team book (so far) but I can imagine this “Book 0” offering will be a kick in the pants for long time fans. Seeing how the team develops, having well-known and beloved characters arrive on stage from separate origins and coming together to form the beginnings of a family… that’s pure gold.
We were well into the story before any SF or supernatural stuff showed up, but show up it did and things got wild. This was a fun, fast read and I highly recommend it.

The Plot is Fun the Narrator is Awful.
I love woo woo, so I loved the plot. Occasionally, though, I was convinced that Mr. Robinson read a series by another author that I listen to and just copied whole parts of those books. The narrator was SO awful that I occasionally got lost as to who was actually speaking. His accents (oh wait, the ONE accent he did) was horrible. It would have been better if he'd literally just READ the book instead of trying to narrate it. He mispronounced so many words it was crazy.

The person that narrated has a cadence that I cannot get used too.
Not a terrible story. Just not very exciting. Predictable and lackluster. I’m sure the writer will improve over the years.

First draft at best
Boring, cheesy and boring. I didn’t finish it. I thought I quit at like chapter 5. It was chapter 18. I can’t tell you one thing that happened in 18 chapters.

Dragged on
I had a real hard time sticking with this book, but I enjoy the author. Not his best work. It finally got better towards the end. Not sure it was worth my time.
