About this listen

When Poppy Parker turns 21, the popular TV witch detective discovers she has supernatural powers off the set as well as on. When the show is canceled, she returns home to figure out how to harness the magic brewing inside her.

Freaked out by these recent paranormal gifts, Poppy just wants to fit in, so when she's asked to serve as a judge for the annual Bloomin' Belles youth beauty competition she readily agrees.

But when the pageant's snooty director drops dead and Poppy's friend is arrested, the former TV sleuth sets out to uncover the real killer, only to find...the business of beauty can be deadly.

Good story

This did not fit my ideal of a cozy mystery but I did enjoy the story enough that I stayed tuned in to it. The author and narrator did a great job. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Loved it!

This was a very well written, beautifully performed murder mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot moved right along. There wasn't a cliffhanger but there is definitely a setup for the next book in the series. I can't wait to continue on with the next book!

Good start, will prob look for more

I am happy to announce that the author gave her new witch a brain: Poppy isn’t doofing around not thinking things through, and she isn’t a TSTL gal who whips out a wand for fun and does totally stupid things for no reason. I don’t agree with some of her choices but this was book one so the reasoning could get better.

I didn’t love the narrator. She didn’t add to the book for me, and in some places she completely missed the rhythm of a sentence, altering the meaning, and taking away from the book. She absolutely did not come to be the voice of Poppy for me so—If the series continues with this narrator—I’ll probably opt to use TTS instead.

cute

This was a really cute book. Loved the characters. Poppy comes back to Alabama to live after her TV show is canceled. She played a witch detective on TV. She finds out she is actually a real witch. While she is judging a kids beauty pageant, the host dies. Poppy gets involved with trying to solve the murder.

Loved the book and the characters. I definitely would like to do more in this series. I loved it because it was in Alabama. I am from Alabama. I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

the narrator, Rachel Flginiti, did a fantastic job.

Fun book

I found this book dragged on a little bit but the characters and story line were good. A woman moved back in with her grandma and found out she was a witch. The book has a familiar, a little magic, and an interesting murder mystery. I listened through Audible. The narrator was prefect for this story. Worth reading.

Great Cozy Mystery

If you are of a fan of cozy mysteries and the pageant scene, you will love this book. It's like the best of reality tv mixed in with a little magic and a good solid mystery story. I'll definitely be checking out more from this author. I also liked the flow and sound of the narrator's voice which is so important when listening to an audiobook.

I read, loved and reviewed this book, YOUR TURN

poppy is so lovable, but it didn't really go into her pqoers, or how she would use them. beauty pageant for kids like toddlers and tiaras, a murder, and a cat... makes for a great little cozy!!!

Any additional comments?

Poison My Pretty is a fast-paced, short cozy with a paranormal twist.
Poppy Parker was a child star but after five years her series is canceled. It was a series with three young witches that solve mysteries. Now a judge at a beauty pageant with bodies falling dead she is putting those skills to work in life, along with her new found talent of being a real witch.
The story is full of quirky characters, it's fast-paced and funny with a touch of mystery. There was a hint of romance in bloom with the cop that stops her in the beginning but I would have liked to see a bit more of that even without sex just a fun romance. I also would have liked more of the witch part as that was very little but I did see that there may be more to come.
