Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. Backed by Science, Not Just Feel-Good Advice!
This isn’t one of those books that just tells you to “think positive” or “stop worrying.” Every strategy in here is backed by real psychology and research, so you know it actually works. I found the book was well researched and flowed well. The narrator was easy to listen to. Overall, I found this book very well intentioned and a great listen.

Great book
This is an amazing audiobook about how being a perfectionist is related to anxiety. I related very much so with the authors personal story and found it helpful to know that I am not alone on my journey. I definitely felt inspired with some of the learned behaviors, such as delegating tasks And kind of rethinking when things are OK and aren’t OK. For whatever reason a lot of us learned to be perfectionist early on in life and it’s a hard habit to break, especially when it leads to anxious behavior. But this book does teach that progress does not happen overnight but with small successes and small steps forward, you can achieve some great results. Chock full of good info and exercises to facilitate change.

RELATABLE AND ACTUALLY HELPFUL
This one hit home! It really breaks down the connection between perfectionism and anxiety in a way that feels both eye-opening and reassuring. The examples are super relatable, and the strategies are practical—nothing too overwhelming or unrealistic. The narration is clear and easy to listen to, making it feel more like a conversation than a lecture. If you tend to overthink everything (like me), this is definitely worth a listen. Lots of useful takeaways to start making real changes!

Finding Peace in Imperfection
I was stuck in a vicious cycle of perfectionism and anxiety, feeling like I was drowning in my own expectations. But then I stumbled upon this audiobook, and it was like a lifeline had been thrown my way. The narrator's voice was calming and reassuring, and the insights they shared were like a breath of fresh air. I loved how they broke down the complex links between perfectionism and anxiety into manageable chunks, and offered practical strategies to break free. What really hit home for me was the way they exposed the sneaky ways perfectionism can masquerade as motivation - it was like they were speaking directly to my soul. I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone tired of feeling trapped by the need for perfection – it's a liberating listen that will set you on the path to a more authentic, anxiety-free life!
