Critic reviews

"Woody Allen once said, 'I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens.' For those of us who will be there when it happens, Kelvin Chin is providing insight, caring support, and a warm life philosophy. A much needed book on more than fear, but of really living. Good, but I missed more on atheism.

I think this book will not help much for people which are scared of oblivion (first theory). Other theories are also explored not deep enough...

Wonderful presentation of a difficult topic

Reading Kelvin's book helped guide me through grieving for all my lost family members. As the only survivor of my family I was carrying a heavy load, especially that a sibling could have gone to hell. The Four Belief systems help me examine my own feelings about a possible after life and my fear of the angry God from my childhood upbringing. Kelvin gently leads the reader by relating his own experiences and stories about death and beyond. His stories truly come alive when listening to his narration of his own book. His deep tone and calm demeanor is like a soothing balm. His storytelling style is both engaging and informative. I have been practicing Kelvin's meditation technique of "turning within" for several years. I wish I had discovered it and his message about death years ago when I was grieving so deeply. It has helped to expand my thoughts and stop scaring myself over things unknown so I can use that energy to enjoy life in the now. A very soothing and compassionate book that I recommend to everyone no matter where they are right now.

A great find!

Where does Overcoming the Fear of Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My wife suggested this audible book because I was in the process of talking with my father about his estate and plans after he passes away. He is a little uptight about the subject so she thought this book might make the conversation easier.
So, while this subject matter might be taboo, the author did a fantastic job making this an easy read. He gave many personal examples of real world scenarios that just make the material easier to digest. I found the sections around NDE (near death experiences) especially fascinating and as a result, I ended up reading other stories around the topic. The author also spoke in detail about how his parents death helped shaped the foundation of the book. Great, real stories that Helped me connect with him. I highly recommend this book.

Fascinating topic! I loved the book!

What a fascinating and informative account of people’s accounts of what’s beyond our physical reality. So much of the book resonated with me. Cannot wait to read Kelvin’s other books. Between the contents of the book and the author’s soothing voice, it’s a wonderful experience considering it’s such a tough subject. Left me waiting more.

A Unique Look at the Taboo Topic of Death

This excellent audio book will help most anyone to begin the discussion on a topic most people avoid until they are forced to, either by a life-threatening diagnosis or a friend or loved one's imminent death. The book takes a simple, yet thought provoking approach to help you to begin to contemplate your mortality...not from a religious point of view but from a broad yet novel cross-cultural view.

The end result is that the author helps you to look at this topic in a way that can help reduce your fears around this often taboo topic of death.

My own advice to others who are in a situation where they are wanting to support a friend or family member who is dying, is to keep your heart open and don't let fear interfere with your experience. Those who took this approach generally came away from the experience transformed by it.

Kelvin's book can help you prepare to have your own transforming experience.

I read the book and listened to it in the car...

I listened to the book on Audible and was very pleased with the sound quality and the volume of the author as he was reading it. Also, Kelvin has a very soothing and almost calming voice and the timbre of his voice is just perfect.
I would recommend this book to anyone really...that's what's so great about it. It's written in such a way that it can be applied for any death or dying situation. No matter what your faith or lack thereof, male or female, or any ethnicity will be able to take away something from this book that will help them with their unique experience with death and dying.
