About this listen

What happens when a boxer finds chemistry with a geek?

Parker Brown can't believe she needs to hire a fake boyfriend. But the head boss prefers to promote employees who are "settled." Thankfully, she's found the perfect candidate, a fellow intellectual looking for some quick cash. What Parker gets is his protective big brother - Rhys Morgan. The tall, muscled ex-boxer with a foul mouth shows up just as her boss does, and now she's stuck with the manipulative jerk.

Responsibility weighs heavily on Rhys. Now permanently out of the ring, he's trying to hold together his late father's gym and keep his younger brother, Dean, on the straight and narrow. To save Dean from himself, Rhys takes his place, ready to give this society girl a piece of his mind. Instead, he finds an opportunity. Even though they can hardly stand each other, posing as Parker's boyfriend is a win-win deal. She gets to keep her job, and he'll charm her star-struck boss into sponsoring his gym.

Problem is, they can barely keep their hands off each other. And what started as an easy deal isn't so easy anymore.

Really good story!

I really enjoyed this story a lot, the male narrator took a few chapters to get accustomed but it got better, it just seems t a bit over the top Bostonian accent but it really rings true to the story when you think about it. They are an unlikely couple but I loved it. I love the fact they communicated when problems arose instead of adding just unnecessary drama.

I have listened to this book more than twice which make it definitely a great find!

Cute

I was nervous about spending a credit on this because of the negative review for the narrators- however I am glad I purchased it. While the male narrator has a strong Boston accent, it led to the credibility of the character. The only thing I agree about the other reviews is that neither narrator were good with the opposite sex’s voice but that’s not unique to these narrators. So if you want an authentic sounding book, then you won’t be disappointed.

Great narration!!

When you start it does take a minute to get used to the accent. But it is so well done once you find the speed you like it is awesome. Great story!

cute

Enjoyed this rom-com with hot grumpy guy and smart up-tight gal. Had enough steamy parts and good story line to keep it interesting and enjoyable. The male narrator was a little hard to get used to, but after a chapter or two, it didn't bother me anymore.

I'm in love I'm obsessed!

• Format: 🎧

• Audible Plus?: Yes!

• A little about the characters and the plot:
Rhys Morgan, a former boxer, needs to get money fast to save the institute that was his late father's dream.
Parker Brown is a hard worker who is willing to do anything to prove herself, even if it means hiring the services of a guy on an app to fake a relationship with her in order to get the approval of her boss.
But... she's hiring Rhys brother's services, and Rhys decides that's not gonna happen at all! And from here? The story is just beginning. 🤭

Very cute and sweet, the narrators are great, I was a little afraid of the accent but it was quite clear. The plot is fun and sweet, reminds me why I sometimes miss the old books.
Yes there were clichés that's why I gave 4 🌟, but it wasn't bad I really had fun listening to this cutie!
And what I liked the most, there was no miscommunication and 3rd act breakup, which is a BIG bonus!!!!
I loved Rhys so much, he was a never ending surprise and I really enjoyed watching Parker peel over layers of herself to become the best version of herself that she has been holding back all this time. I loved the tension between them, the realization that they are not so different and their affection for each other. I really want a book about her best friend. 🤍
recommended! 🫶🏻

The male narrator is ruining it.

The male narrator is so annoying it almost makes you want to give up. the accent he makes is awful the voice he makes for Parker is terrible too.
He is better with voices without accent. Might aswell give up the accent if it makes it that you are unable to listen to it!

Quite the accent

Took a few minutes to get through that thick accent. It wasn’t bad. I like the storyline.

Phenomenal Narration! Give it a chance!

Please do not decide on this book based on the negative reviews of Alex Kydd’s narration. They completely confuse me, and I strongly disagree… although I respect that everyone has their own valid opinion.

Alex is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators because he goes out of his way to speak authentically like the character, not just voice perform characters from various books using the same voice each time.

So many of my favorite male narrators have deep sexy voices, and yet I’m constantly aware I’m listening to a well known narrator perform a character. Alex Kydd BECOMES THE CHARACTER. It’s not just about an authentic accent, The way he says words and uses inflection to perfectly match the character the author created is truly brilliant.

In this book, I listened to Rhys tell me his story… not Alex Kydd reading Rhys’s story. I truly believe that many listeners who gave negative reviews simply did not give it a chance when they heard a narration style they weren’t expecting. I 100% believe that anyone who opens their mind to the experience, without knee jerk judgements, will truly enjoy this audiobook.

Moreover, it was clear that both narrators communicated about how each main character would speak. The MMC and FMC were performed consistently by both narrators.

And now… the writing!!!! Whoa! I started this Audible Plus selection expecting it to be a pleasantly enjoyable, formulaic & predictable rom-com. It was so much more! The character development and plot were sublime. There was depth to each character and to their relationships. There was believable growth & healing. The chemistry was hot and delicious because the authors created a spark then steadily nurtured that spark into a raging inferno in this sincere, funny, heartfelt, captivating slow burn romance.

I usually listen to romance audiobooks at 1.2 to 1.5 speed. But this one was so delicious that I wanted to savor every moment. I listened to the entire thing without speeding up even once. I’ll be listening to it several more times, for sure.

This is currently in the plus catalog. I highly recommend you give it a chance! Now that I’ve listened to these two authors, I’ll be seeking out more of their books with my credits.

...

was unsure of the story at first. Alex Kidd is one of my favorites but this was a little hard to get throw his voice matched the what the character should have sounded like but didn't care for it.. The story line was good. Worth a listen
