About this listen

Yoga was created as a science for liberation, but in modern times it is used by many to improve physical and mental health, helping us become more productive at work, more caring in relationships, more responsible contributors to society, and better inhabitants of this planet. If yoga does accomplish all that―as many practitioners report―how exactly does yoga do it? How does yoga work?

Believe it or not, the answers lie in how the human body and mind function. Eddie Stern’s One Simple Thing: A New Look at the Science of Yoga and How It Can Transform Your Life explains from both a yogic and a scientific perspective how the human nervous system is wired. It describes the mechanics taking place beneath the surface of our bodies and shows how we can consciously use yogic practices to direct and change our lives in positive ways.

Drawing on modern neuroscience, ancient wisdom, and decades of practice and teaching, Eddie Stern’s One Simple Thing, with a foreword from Deepak Chopra, explains how what we do affects who we become, and reveals how a steady routine of physical movements, activities, and attitudes are able to transform not just our bodies but our brain functions and emotions, and how we experience life.

I've learned so much.

I've read many yoga texts, but this is by far the most compelling and understandable. I'm loving every minute.

A Pleasant Surprise

Nice combination of current scientific evidence and yoga 's long spiritual history and tradition. I was pleasantly surprised by both the accessibility and substantive depth of this book. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Essential Read for Anyone

Stern methodically explains yoga and meditation in an easily absorbable and modern way. Yoga as he explains has become this trendy thing and a good deal of its wisdom has been set aside. This book needs to be on everyone’s bookshelf. A fun and incredibly informative read (or listen)

Great listen!

This book was absolutely worth the listen and I would 100% recommend for anyone looking to dive deeper into their yoga practice. I have the performance 4 stars only because I felt the speed at which it was read was a bit fast for someone learning new concepts (also me) but being able to listen again is helpful. If you’re curious, just go for it. Great listen!

I'll have to read this one again!

This book was very eye opening and had a lot of scientific information, but also had a lot of wisdom from ancient teachings. There were some abstract concepts that I had a hard time understanding at certain points, and there were many words and people introduced that I had not heard before, so I'm sure I would absorb and understand more with a second listen. It was definitely inspiring and served as a great reminder of just how much benefit can come from yoga and even simple practices such as a few minutes of resonance breathing. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to learn and understand more about the philosophy and history of yoga.
