About this listen

In Normal Broken, Kelly Cervantes isn't trying to tell you what to do, how to feel, or the right way to heal. She's also not flinging sunny thoughts, vibes, and prayers at you. After losing her daughter to epilepsy, she knows that grief is many things. Something everyone will have to deal with. But never linear. Just as what we are grieving varies, so do our journeys to process it.

Normal Broken was born out of this desire to meet people where they are in their grief journeys, to lend a hand, or maybe to just sit in the dark with them.

Normal Broken is divided into "moments" of grief that will allow you to choose what you need at any given time—such as:

- When you're not sure if you want to heal

- When you're facing anniversaries and other meaningful dates

- When you're ready to be okay

Kelly also shares stories from her ongoing journey, along with advice she wishes someone had given her. Normal Broken is designed to serve as a companion through your own grief journey, whether you are mourning the loss of a child, a friend, a family member, or anyone special in your life.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

I relate to everything!

Feeling the guilt when I feel joy then realize the only reason why I could feel this joy is because my dad has passed away.

I couldn’t have my own place if dad hadn’t left me funds behind. Half of my income each month is from what he left me.

I do things to honor him as best as I can. When I feel the need to talk or cry with him I drink out of his favorite mug.

I’m going to give your book out to people this year. As many as possible. Everyone has experienced a loss & can relate to your words on grief/loss.

I’ll suggest to my apartment complex to use your book for the one they distribute sometimes. This location is different from my previous complex (same owner) and I hope they’ll take it to heart.

I hope for my local library to purchase copies as well. I loved this suggestion. I’ll get a copy or two & donate them if they don’t sound enthusiastic.

Yours is to better grasp grief as the layperson.

I know I’ll be doing the writing prompts. I’ll also move some of what I’m writing here to my review of the book on Amazon.

Adelaide’s mama, whom I adore, shares some of her love, life & stories with advice mixed in

This book is good for those not only experiencing acute grief but those working through anticipatory and complex grief. It is real, timely, and helps to underscore the complexity that is grief. As a parent for a child with complex medical needs and rare catastrophic seizure disease I especially felt the author relatable in her sharing of her daughter.

Not just for acute grief

I truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It was like listening to a friend. I enjoyed the way she talks about grief and makes it make sense. I was happy she had the courage to speak about something as painful as losing a child. It’s comforting to hear that people can get back to happy without getting to normal and not be broken. Thank you for the book mark on my flight. Thank you for the inspirational story of love and loss and survival. Looking forward to reading your next book. A Harrison
