Publisher's summary

Based on true events, but unlike anything you've ever heard before, number-one New York Times best-selling author Nelson DeMille has created what may be his finest work to date.

At dusk on July 17, 1996, on a deserted Long Island beach, a man and a woman engage in adulterous sex in front of a video camera. Suddenly a terrible blast lights up the dark summer sky. TWA Flight 800 has just exploded in midair with 230 souls onboard, and the video camera has recorded the last moments of the doomed airliner.

Five years later the government has declared the crash a result of mechanical failure. But John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective who is now a contract agent with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is persuaded by Kate Mayfield, his wife and task force partner, that the case deserves a second look.

Kate, a career FBI agent, plays by the rules. Corey plays by no rules but his own. Against long odds and warnings from their superiors, they set out to reopen the case and discover its most crucial piece of evidence. The hunt will lead to a conspiracy at the highest levels and a race toward an elusive and lethal truth that could be even more horrifying than the crash of Flight 800, one with unimaginable consequences for America...and the world.

Don't Miss This One

The third John Corey book and absolutely riveting. Funny, suspenseful and wonderfully written. We couldn't wait to get back in the car and finish listening. We drove HUNDREDS of extra miles to see how it came out. Read/listen to the first two, Plum Island and The Lion's Game first so you don't spoil your own fun.

Very good read

DeMille has once again writen a compeling and well researched masterpiece. It is not a "conspiracy theorist" work such as Michael Moore's fictitious documentaries or Oliver Stone's movies, who have no credibility whatsoever, but it raises some interesting questions about some problems and unanswered elements surrounding the TWA accident. He does a fine job connecting facts and fiction.

Cannot Turn it Off!

I am a little over half way through this book, and find myself taking the long way to my destinations in order to hear more. The main character is awesome, and the narration is top notch.

Very good book.

Narrator is wonderful. I love this series. Not quite as good as The Lion, but still excellent. I’m reading The General’s Daughter next and then will get back to next book in series.

I encourage everyone to write a review. I depend on reviews when buying books. Nothing influences me more than how other readers rate a book. I don’t expect everyone to feel the same but I’ve never disagreed with the majority of the reviewers.

I love Scott Bricks voice & Nelson DeMille longhand chicken scratching

This author causes me to belly laugh out loud more than what is deemed acceptable when sitting in a coffee shop reading a book “quietly”. John Cory is my all-time favorite character. I adore his wife Kate and the fact she doesn’t take his shit. I love the details, the technical aspects, the crime, the love banter, and the boys club jostling that never disappoints and Nelson DeMille‘s books. Enjoy!!

Wow...

Really gripping to listen to. You keep wondering how he's going to pull this off and well, the obvious is there, yet.... Gotta listen and I love the reader's way of presenting the book.

Great story - Disappointing ending

Love the story - it's Detective John Corey, who doesn't love him.

The cat and mouse game was great and the story built to a really exciting crescendo - then like TWA 800 - it blew up.

As the book drew to a close, the author telegraphed the ending. I was hoping badly, that DeMille didn't go there, but he did.

It ended in a very disappointing fashion. The author admitted in the interview that followed the book, that he had "painted himself into a corner" with this story and this was his way out.

I think that's a bit of a cop out - he should have thought about that earlier.

Still very much enjoyed the story.

A Great Listen

Excellent writer and reader. I've enjoyed all of Demille's books on Audible. Although somewhat predictable, it is a worthy listen. Captures your attention right away. John Corey is always an interesting character. If you enjoy thrillers, you should try this one.

Very Good Listen

I enjoyed this book. It held my attention to the very end.
May I also recommend Up Country. I wish I had not already read it so I could listen to it.
