Publisher's summary

"Filled with fabulously British banter, wit, and heart, this delightful book is one of my must-read rom coms of the year." (Evie Dunmore, USA Today best-selling author of Portrait of a Scotsman)

“Virginia Heath’s fun characters and situations will have you laughing out loud! Don’t miss this wonderful read!” (Sabrina Jeffries, New York Times best-selling author)

The first in a new historical rom-com series, a handsome earl hires a fake fiancée to keep his matchmaking mother at bay, but hilarity ensues when love threatens to complicate everything.

The last thing Hugh Standish, Earl of Fareham, ever wants is a wife. Unfortunately for him, his mother is determined to find him one, even from across the other side of the ocean. So Hugh invents a fake fiancée to keep his mother’s matchmaking ways at bay. But when Hugh learns his interfering mother is on a ship bound for England, he realizes his complicated, convoluted but convenient ruse is about to implode. Until he collides with a beautiful woman, who might just be the miracle he needs.

Minerva Merriwell has had to struggle to support herself and her two younger sisters ever since their feckless father abandoned them. Work as a woodcut engraver is few and far between, and the Merriwell sisters are nearly penniless. So when Hugh asks Minerva to pose as his fiancée while his mother is visiting, she knows that while the scheme sounds ludicrous, the offer is too good to pass up.

Once Minerva and her sisters arrive at Hugh's estate, of course nothing goes according to his meticulous plan. As hilarity and miscommunication ensue while everyone tries to keep their tangled stories straight, Hugh and Minerva’s fake engagement starts to turn into a real romance. But can they trust each other when their relationship started with a lie? The first book in the Merriwell Sisters series, Never Fall for Your Fiancée is a hilarious, sparkling historical romantic comedy from Virginia Heath.

Nice historical romance

This was a new author for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a fairly typical historical romance but definitely on the slow burn side with very mild heat and only one slightly steamy scene. The dialogue was clever and the story was nice but it was longer than I needed for what it was and it was bogged down by too much detail that didn’t move the story along. I would have preferred the romance move along a little quicker. Shane East and Shakira Shute did a fabulous job will all the characters and I continued to listen to the book because I enjoyed their performance so much it was worth it.

Fab, Funny & Absolutely Charming

Original storyline that is everything from full on charm to laugh out loud funny. I would definitely pick up another Virgina Heath book again and will look for anything that has Shakira Shute narrating. She was so much fun as all the characters as was the brilliant Shane East. Need an epilogue, patreon addition, something because I didn't want the book to end yet.

Favorite trope and favorite narrators - enjoyed it

A great fake engagement story in regency London - fake relationship being my fave trope! I really enjoyed it. First in a series and I have all three to read so I’m excited to carry on to the stories of the other sisters quickly.

Narrated by my fave Shane East (swoon!!), and Shakira Shute who has been making a name in the industry - fantastic job from both!

I know that this book had very mixed reviews when it came out, but I really liked it.

So much fun!

I actually laughed out loud a few times, which hardly ever happens in this genre so I was utterly delighted! It definitely needed some editing - I hope I never hear the words “tainted Standish blood” again - but I’m looking forward to the rest of the series. Terrific performances too!

Wouldn’t Buy It Again

1. The two narrations did not work. Either / or would have been ok but alternating voices was very annoying. 2. The story was an old one, not at all original. 3. I rate a book based on whether I will listen more than once. In this case, I would not. I’d love to return it.

Not as expected

Reviews talked about the humor , to many some may like it, but to me it was dry. In my opinion it was slow paced and really not interesting enough to hold my attention.

DE-LIGHT-FUL!! BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN. LOVED IT.

Full of banter, drama, fright or flight, misunderstandings, and chaos, lovely chaos. A complicated plot full of twists and turns, yet, seemingly innocent enough. And then the fun begins. Excellent characters. Brilliant narrations!

It was Excellent!

First book by Virginia Heath that I have listened to. It was full of laughter and a delightful story.

Shane East was as amazing as always as Hugh. Shakira Shute is a new to me narrator and was wonderful as Minerva.
