Publisher's summary

I have a story to tell, a story I promised never to tell. Hell, it isn't even one I wanted to live through. I just can't keep it inside anymore. Now that they're both gone. I have to tell my story.

Rachel Porter tells her sons about the love of her life, about their father and about their life together. This novella tells the story of the beginning of the Porter family through the Vietnam War, too many losses and a new beginning. It's a tale her sons won't forget, and one that could change them for all time.

How it all began for the Porter family

This book explains Rachel's decisions and how much heartbreak she endured during her youth and early adulthood. There were a lot of answered questions from book 1.

The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life. This was a shorter story but there were a lot of important information in it to help clarify things left hanging from the first book.

Never Coming Home

Never Coming Home: Porter Brothers, Book 2
: Paloma Beck

This book gives back story of the Porter brother's parents. It helped explain some things from book 1. I liked this better than the first book. It made me want to listen to the other books, that are nowhere to be found.............yet.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Kim Park.

Interesting Story

I got this book via audiobook boom. this is the story of a lady who has just lost her husband and best friend. she is telling her history to her three sons and that is how the story is told. She has been friends with two guys since junior high. TheOne dies in Vietnam and the other makes it back home. She marries him after some time and they remain married until he dies but she only had passion, friendship love with him. Her heart belonged to the one who died. the narrator got on my nerves and I almost did not finish the book. This is part 1 of a two-part story. It is well written. I just hope the narrator gets better.

A nice follow up on book 1

Any additional comments?

This answers all the questions you have left from book 1. There was mystery as to what and why the parents were not living together. This goes back from the day they met and all the heartbreak that they went through. It is a touching read and fills in a lot of blanks for a short listen.

Ms. Parks narration was very good in this one. I heard no background noise no places where the volume was higher or lower than any place else in the story. She put emotion in the read you never had trouble knowing who was talking. Her characters voices were very nice. This is short and sweet but does give a nice feel for the narrator.

The Story Begins for the Porter Family

Where does Never Coming Home rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

For me this ranks in the lower 1/4 for audiobooks. Romance books are not normally my favorite books but I have been told I need to expand my horizons and try new things so I have. This series was the most interesting and better reviewed.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that that story went back and filled in the gaps of how Rachel met her husband and why they were apart at the time of his accident. I also liked that it gave her more backstory giving her a better 3-D type character. This story also answered the question of if they were apart due to her son Davis and his military service.

Which scene was your favorite?

The death notice of her parents

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The playing of taps at the funeral for first true love.

Answers the Big Question

Any additional comments?

I liked Never Coming Home even more than Book 1!

Sweet romance and going in, you know there will be tragedy.

I had some issues with book 1, but listening to this one answered my Big Question(s) and made me appreciate Rachel's view more, and settled my worry over her relationships.

For being novella length, this packed quite a punch, and I wish I'd listened to this one first :)
