About this listen

In this electrifying sequel to Angel Killer, magician turned FBI agent Jessica Blackwood must channel her past to catch a killer consumed by a desire for revenge.

When a church combusts in rural Appalachia, the bizarre trail of carnage suggests diabolical forces are at work. Charged with explaining the inexplicable, the FBI's Dr. Ailes and Agent Knoll once again turn to the ace up their sleeve: Agent Jessica Blackwood, a former prodigy from a family dynasty of illusionists. After playing a pivotal role in the capture of the Warlock, a seemingly supernatural serial killer, Jessica can no longer ignore the world - and the skills - she left behind. Her talent and experience endow her with a knack for knowing when things are not always as they appear to be, and she soon realizes this explosion is just the first of many crimes.

As the death toll mounts, Jessica discovers the victims share a troubling secret with far-reaching implications that stretch from the hills of West Virginia to cartel-corrupted Mexico to the hallowed halls of the Vatican. Everyone involved in what happened on that horrible night so long ago has tried to bury it - except for one person, who believes that the past can be hidden but never forgiven. Can Jessica draw on her unique understanding of the power and potential of deception to thwart a murderer determined to avenge the past?

Andrew Mayne does it again!

I fell in love with Andrew's writing with Angel Killer. This book only increases that love! This book ls worth every second of the 12 hour performance. Well written, well read, and excellent story and endlessly entertaining! Do not pass this book by!

None stop action

I am a fan of the Jessica Blackwood series and this book does not disappointe my high expectations. This is a great book for a long commute or a road trip. Lots of action packed chapters and brilliant villains for Jessica to spare. If you like fast paced thrillers this one is for you.

Not my favorite

The overall isn’t bad. I did expect more from the ending, based off the first book in the series though.

Always looking for a new series!

I took a chance on this series after listening to “the naturalist” series by Andrew Mayne. Have loved both. Different than your normal FBI/police crime thriller - it can get a little out there but it’s fun and different. Just downloaded book 3...

Exciting Ride, Anticlimactic & Disappointing End

I love this series, and was at the edge of my seat until the last chapter. Ending felt rushed, like the author got tired of writing the book. I'm still invested in the series and I will buy the next book. I just wish this one ended better. Great performance by the narrator!

Solid second entry in the series

While the first book in this series had an antagonist that worked very well with the stage magician skills of the protagonist, this plot of this book felt like much more of a stretch. That said, the writing was still entertaining and Jessica Blackwood was still an excellent choice for interesting suspense stories.

Recommended, but not unreservedly.

More magic and more danger!

This is a great listen because the voice actor does an amazing job. That matched with an amazing sequel. I liked the slight of hand from the first book. This one takes a deeper dive into the Blackwood family's past. <>

Love this series with a strong, courageous female

This is a great follow up to the first book with twist and turns including trying to kill the pope. Such a great lead female and just like I think the FBI really is. Read it it’s a joy.

Love this book!

I loved the story and the narrator! There is always a new villain but a few have gotten away. I hope the author will wrap up loose ends!
