Delightful Comedy of Errors

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

P.G. Wodehouse' characters Jeeves and Wooster have delighted readers and audiences for over a century. This is a collection of the earliest short stories featuring these characters. The plots are fairly straightforward: one of Wooster's friends comes to him looking for help or advice. A zany scheme is planned. There is a hitch in the plan. Hilarity ensues. At any point Jeeves is on hand to come up the scheme, a snide comment and a solution to the current iteration of the problem.

That being said each chapter is a self contained story so they work as bite sized morsels. It's all comfort reading throughout. The stakes are never any higher than someone losing money or a minor inconvenience. Seeing the plots unfold and everything blowing up in Wooster's face is always entertaining. It's basically an early sitcom.

Zac Smith does a great job with the accent and voices of the various characters and listening to it was almost more like a radio program than listening to a novel.

Not my cup of tea wot

I’ve always wanted to read what I thought was a Jeeves mystery. I didn’t realize the “first” book was early short stories, which hopefully are a pale shade of later novels. But as it is I’m sadly not sure I’ll take the risk. I found this collection tiresome. The gag got old fast and the plot devices repetitive and predictable.
