About this listen

I’m a witch with a problem. Okay, make that lots of problems.

Following a slight misunderstanding with magical law enforcement, I wind up expelled from the hidden supernatural community known as the Seattle Haven.

My parole officer dumps me in a tiny beach town with nothing but my collection of worldly possessions and a warning that this is my last shot. I don’t think I’m cut out for the human world, but when stuck between a prison cell and a haunted halfway house, I suppose I’ll take option B.

Things start out better than expected, and I even manage to make a few friends, but when my boss at the local coffee house is found dead in an alley, I get tangled up in the investigation, and might have to blow my cover to prove my friend’s innocence.

Add to that a fussy ghost landlady, warring vampire and shifter roommates, and my rapidly dwindling savings, and I’m beginning to wonder if I might have been better off serving that prison sentence after all.

It’s too late now. I’m in the thick of it and come hex or high water, I’ll get to the bottom of this murder, even if it means permanent banishment from the magical world.

Murder’s a Witch is the first book in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries series. A series of spunky paranormal cozy mysteries that are perfect for fans of Amanda M. Lee, Kristen Painter, and Angie Fox. Come join the fun in Beechwood Harbor, the seaside town where witches, shifters, ghosts, and vamps all live, work, play—and mostly—get along!

great narrator, good story

I enjoyed this first in the series audiobook. It's engaging, but not mentally taxing. I'm interested in the rest of the series.

Interesting book I think I will be listening to more of Danielle Garrett’s books to see what becomes of her and Adam.

Cute little paranormal cozy

This book was cute. I don’t know what else to say about it. The characters were okay. I did like Holly and Cassie. Their friendship was the highlight of the book and seeing Holly defend Cassie was what kept me going in the story. The author did a good job of setting the heroine, her location and the townspeople. I didn’t ever get a good feel for the town itself though – couldn’t quite picture it in my mind.

The murder is so predictable but I feel like for a first in the series it must be sometimes so the author can set up everything else going on. That being said, the author never really made the other suspects look remotely reasonable suggestions, so I was just waiting for the climatic reveal to hurry up.

Here is my biggest issue with the book. The author seems to be leaning towards a love triangle (worst trope ever invented) but the two love interests didn’t make great first impressions. I think the author knew this and tried to redeem them a little by the end of the book. She did a good job of this, but I am just not into love triangles. They never end well, and authors tend to destroy the losing character’s redeeming characteristics. I don’t want that to happen here.

Not a bad start to a series. I don’t know how long the series is, but I will be checking out the next entry.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book in spite of the publisher's blurb. Holly lives in a large old rooming house with other supernaturals in a small town on the coast and works with locals in the only coffee shop in town. Her coworkers are her good friends, so it gets really hairy when one of them becomes the prime suspect in the murder of the shop's owner. The rest is fun and well done, but no spoilers here. A good read!
I have the audio, and Amanda Ronconi gives a great audio performance.

Very Engaging

I Love this series. Amanda Ronconi does a fantastic narration, changes her voice to match the characters, a very strong actress in my opinion.
Danielle Garrett brings it with this clean murder mystery. She makes it fun.

Meh

I'm not impressed with this cozy paranormal mystery. The story isn't very interesting and neither or the characters. I did manage to finish the book, but, probably won't get the next one.

Good listen

New to me author and narrator. Good story with some interesting twists. I was surprised by the storyline and pleasantly so. I like Holly’s wit and bit of sass. The characters are warm and funny. Looking forward to the next book.

The narrator has a good range of voices and read with a nice tempo. I’ll listen to her again.
