Evangeline "Evie" Parker, Countess of Woodridge, has trekked out to her country estate, Halton House. It's time to pick up the reins and re-establish herself in the district. No easy task when one of her afternoon tea guests is poisoned. Is it a coincidence when another guest is found dead from poison?

Scotland Yard steps in. While Evie trusts they will find the killer, she takes exception when the finger of suspicion is pointed at her.

Evie has her hands full trying to keep the name of Woodridge free of scandal as well as mending fences with her maid Caro, who has found a unique way of expressing her displeasure.

If the poisoner doesn't get her then, surely, her maid Caro wil....

Fun Read

I had trouble distinguishing the voices.
I feel like 2 plot points were not resolved.

Sweet (& Savory) Mystery

This was a great mystery with some fun twists and turns that ended up someplace unexpected. I liked that.

Fun and light!

The reader is great and plays so many roles well. I look forward to more of Sonia Parin’s mysteries.

Meh...?

It's hard to decide if I liked this story or not. There's an ok murder mystery here, but the main character is dull and forgettable and makes the book drag. It's hard to like or dislike her. The people around her are interesting, her grandma should really be the main character.

Very British Cozy Mystery

A very British Cozy Mystery about Evangeline "Evie" Parker who is the Countess of Woodridge and has a country estate called Halton House. There is murder by poison and romance that's well, you will have to listen to this audiobook.

Something is lacking

I just cannot get into the characters in the Evie Parker books. I have listened to two at this point and find most of the characters to be uninteresting and shallow. Only grandmama comes to life. I keep comparing these books to the Nancy Drew mysteries that I enjoyed when I was 10. Now I want better quality of writing. I will be returning the first two on the series as well as the third to which I have not listened.

Better than the first book

In this installment, Tom’s deadpan comments to Evie are well done, and the maid has some subtle, cute passive retribution moments toward Evie. I enjoyed it more than the last one.
