About this listen

Aileen has always been certain of a few undeniable facts - black raspberry is the only ice cream flavor that matters, vampires can't be trusted, and her loyalty, once given, is unquestionable. When a late-night visitor shows up needing her help, she agrees without hesitation.

It's not long before a pounding at her door reminds her that nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems. Now, with her friend missing, Aileen realizes her simple favor leads to consequences she cannot avoid as she finds herself drawn further into a world she's done everything to escape.

As loyalties are tested, Aileen will need to decide how far she will go in the name of friendship. Because bodies are dropping, and the trail leads right back to one she holds dear. Will she stand fast in her beliefs, or will she be forced to betray another?

One thing is clear - her choice may lead to her salvation or her doom.

Fun and engaging.

T.A White is fast become one of my favorite authors for romantic fantasy. While I still love her other two series better than this one, it is still great. I love to see Aileen be as stubborn as possible. Narrator is good she does snarky great.

Kept up my curiosity

Good narrator, sometimes slurs a bit and could speed up the narration a touch but good overall.
The story isn’t one of those that’s so good I can’t stop listening but it was good enough that it kept up my curiosity making me listen a little longer and more often than I usually would.

So entertaining!

The more I read of this series the more I'm loving it. Aileen is such an awesome heroine. We learn a little bit more about her with each book. It's pretty exciting to see new pieces to the puzzle. It also makes me hungry to learn everything.

The overall story of each book are very similar and not in a bad way. I'm enjoying each mystery she stumbles upon. This is also how we are learning more about her past and her new future.

There is still only a spark of a romance in this series but it's enough to have me enthralled to what could be as it slowly unfurls. I love Liam's obsession with her.

I'm so glad there is another book I can jump right on. I don't know how many are planned in this series but it sure is going to be hard to wait for each book until it's done. I'm off to read book 4.

Still torn in what to rate this series

I wish the main character would win an argument with the vampires once in a while. Or show some gumption in sneakily getting back at their over bearing butts.

Below are going to be spoilers
I almost stopped reading this book several times because of Liam and Thomas.
Liam is showing ever red flag of an abusive boyfriend. Manipulating threatening coercion and violence. Isolating her from the life she has built. When she tries to escape they kidnap her and guilt trip her. All for her own good of course. Because he is a creepy old guy that knows best. The few times he shows compassion is mainly when she is injured.

Thomas on the other hand murders her and then tells her it’s her own fault for having such a crappy life. That taking away her right to consent is ok because she was not living up to her potential. Then as soon as she gives an inch (which Liam forced her to do but that’s ok because at the last minute he tried to help kind of) Thomas tries to control her. Forgetting the agreement that was struck. When she hesitates he forces things once again without full consent.

Lastly in all three books the head guys don’t listen to her and keep things from her. For really aggravatingly stupid reasons. For example in the last book she went to the alpha werewolf to try to help him. Instead of listening to her and going to talk privately he treated her like an enemy. Even though she played a big part in saving him in book 1. Then they wouldn’t tell her about the demon. Which if they had sooner may have saved Caroline and found Thomas his descendants. Instead they treat her like garbage and Liam manipulated her into recognizing her murder and giving him power.

They also never are shown apologizing when she is proven right for the way they treated her. I guess I will just have to live with my love hate of these books.
