Publisher's summary

Elizabeth and John initially meet while on a ferryboat from New York to a popular resort area called Block Island, then go their separate ways. A situation involving international intrigue brings them back together, along with a host of other characters. They interact with an American mercenary, a Russian agent, and an American housewife and daughter in dire straits in Eastern Europe. All roads lead to Manhattan. Excerpts: “Block Island State Airport, this is Heli one-five bravo requesting permission to land.” “Roger, one-five bravo, remain south of runway 10/28 at all times, cleared to hover-taxi down the straight-in to the FBO.” - - - The special nature of the mission allowed him temporary access to the government grid of local web cams, and their software was state-of-the-art. Area images came up from Old Harbor National Hotel and Champlin Road. - - - Maggie Miller sat alone on the floor in the interrogation area of a foreign prison. Fate had dealt her bad hands in the past, but this was the worst. It was a morose setting, a cavernous room with concrete walls, a metal door and steel bars. She looked up as she heard the heavy door creek open, followed by a loud slamming shut and the sound of the warden's heavy boots crossing the cement floor. He had on a sharp looking military uniform and carried a baton, along with several files. Maggie wore humble prison garb and had bare feet. “Take off your clothes,” he casually ordered, setting the files on the table. - - Jason could donate one kidney and still live. It would be too much trouble and too time-consuming nursing him through recovery. Black market offers were solicited for his second kidney, his heart and some other organs for another hundred thousand. It was significantly below the going rate, but enough. Bids came in, deals were done, Jason was gone. The warden was three hundred thousand American dollars richer. - - - At age thirty-eight, she still looked good enough to be dancing in the display window. By nightfall, she would be. The warden wouldn't miss her, his only regret was not seeing her have sex with Jason. Things hadn't worked out exactly as planned, but getting the money for the urgently needed organs took priority. He liked variety, he liked the fact the two women would be earning money for him every day. He also liked the fact that they had already been replaced. A new set of tourists awaited him in the interrogation room. - - - Elizabeth had never showered with a man before. Shaw had never seen her naked before. She hesitated, tempted. “Oh, what the heck.” She peeled off her undies and joined him. She would soon have the cleanest breasts in Manhattan. - - - Elizabeth leaned over and whispered, “He is a billionaire because he runs the crime families of all five boroughs, you idiot. Don't you recognize him?” - - - Nick was a hardened, battle-tested soldier, but he was about to discover he had a weakness he didn't know about. He had planned on being gallant, rescuing two damsels in distress. He had been with a hundred woman. His newfound weakness was one named Kristin. ...He'd forgotten how long it had been since he'd been with an eighteen-year-old and was immediately aroused by it. She pulled off his pants. He felt he should stop her; he knew he couldn't. - - - “Have you ever had sex with another woman, Kristin?” Elizabeth asked. “No.” “How about with a gun? When having sex with a pistol, you have to be careful it doesn't ejaculate, if you catch my drift.” She fired a silenced-round into a pillow on the old couch. - - - The government can also remotely unlock your car's door locks, shut-off its engine, even disable your brakes by satellite if they want you dead. I've seen too many people-of-interest die in suspicious car accidents for it to be a coincidence.” - - - “I want to be a sniper, too!” Kristin cried out. “Will you teach me, Elizabeth?” “What did you call me?” “Oh, sorry, I meant Mistress.” - - -
