About this listen
Buddy Rider's little Cessna spotter aircraft was shot down twice over the jungles of Vietnam, and ten years later he’s flying crop dusters for a living while tinkering with an old WWII transport aircraft. He avoids the painful memories of the war, the bad times, and the loss of friends, until a young woman comes to his aircraft hangar in search of him. Elizabeth Anderson is a lay nun dedicated to aiding the helpless, and her immediate task is to rescue fellow missionaries and orphans trapped in war-torn El Salvador.
This requires an experienced pilot with a sturdy aircraft who is willing to risk such a mission, even when it's forbidden by the State Department. Buddy agrees that helping innocent civilians escape the crossfire of drug cartels and warring factions in El Salvador is a noble cause but an impossible mission. Neither he nor his old C-47 paratrooper aircraft could survive such a mission, and he dismisses the young woman, until a pushy State Department official comes around making implied threats. Rider, an admitted rebel, is also a sucker for a damsel in distress and reconsiders. Faced with government investigators, impossible logistics, El Salvadoran government troops, and rebel guerillas, Buddy knows he and his pollyannaish partner will need a miracle to succeed.
