About this listen

Blade, Magik, Nico Minoru, and Ghost Rider have joined forces to form the Midnight Suns. Trained by the Caretaker at the Abbey, a gothic fortress in a pocket dimension, this brand-new team of supernatural heroes is the world's first line of defense against the demonic forces of the underworld. With a looming prophecy of magical upheaval that threatens to unleash apocalyptic danger, the Suns must learn to work together—and quickly. But they aren't the only ones paying attention to the disruption of mystical forces.

Taking advantage of the growing disorder, a mysterious group called the Triumvirate has discovered the existence of a hidden relic that would give them control over Mephisto, and they will stop at nothing to exact revenge on their shared enemy. The Midnight Suns will face their biggest challenge yet to prevent the Triumvirate from unearthing this devastating power and throwing the world into chaos.

The Prequel Before the Game!

I liked the idea for this novel even before I realized that it was a Marvel Comics novel. There is a diabolical (literally) plot afoot for certain demons to take control of Mephisto so that they can rule pretty much everything. The only people standing in their way are a handful of Marvel's supernatural heroes (minus Doctor Strange). The ones I was already familiar with were Blade, Ghost Rider, and Magik. These are not heroes you normally see in the Marvel books so that was an added bonus. The action is pretty good--as one would expect in a novel about superheroes--and the plot was okay. I frankly never really felt the universe was threatened, but I enjoyed watching the heroes defend it anyway.

Blade and Ghost Rider

I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator did a wonderful job. The story was interesting and action packed. I liked the Midnight Suns group but could not keep from wishing for more members.

Interesting

Right now I am playing Midnight Suns and I found this prequel book written by S.D. Perry so I bought it immediately. The audio is fine I know some other people state that they dislike it but I never had a problem with it. The story is okay it's not going to break any new ground but it does give us some backstory to at least the midnight Sun characters before the main event and it also kind of leads up to the main event nicely. would have been kind of cool if the game mentioned any of this even if it was a line or two the kind of gets you to read the prequel or to let you know that there was something going on before but oh well. If you like the PC game you're going to like this, and for an IP that may never see another game in the series give it all the love you can and buy it.

if you love the game and the lore listen to this

The narrator did their best to ruin this book, but they failed. Still, I'll probably never listen to another of their works.
All in all, if you played the game or just want a solid foundation for your play through, you'll enjoy the book!

Great company to the game!

Loved the character development that went into this book. Also, it gave me a whole new appreciation for the game.

Made the game so much more enjoyable.

I personally love this book. The narrator did a wonderful job. I saw in previous reviews people complaining about him but they’re wrong

Good listen

The story and writing are mostly fine, but there’s a lack of characterization which was a highlight of the game’s story. They likely assume (probably rightfully) that you’ve played the game already because if you don’t know these characters or their abilities the book does very little to help you out. But it’s mostly fine, a decent superhero romp with simple writing.

What drags it down a bit further is the awkward and stilted reading. Odd gaps, mispronunciations, and some…interesting accent choices. Needed a second pass from an editor maybe.

Lacks the game’s quality

Most of my enjoyment is honestly from playing the game months ago. Honestly, you need to have played the game to truly enjoy this book. The story is ok. Would have preferred to tell me a story of how The Midnight Suns former rather than this one off adventure. Also, I know this wouldn't have happened but I think the book would have worked better if the VAs from the game voiced their characters. Magiks accent is...strange. Sometimes it sounds more German than Russian.
Overall, it was alright.

It's alright
