About this listen
This book reminds us that in the Second Lebanon War we learned nothing from the first one. In both we eagerly entered into battle without a clear picture of our final goal and what exactly we wished to achieve.
Most significantly, the extensive evidence examined here contradicts the accepted view that it was the Lebanon War and its difficulties that brought on Begin's depression. Instead, for the first time, an opposite truth emerges, namely it was the depression that already held Begin in its grip, which led to the escalation of the Lebanon War.
Dr. Ofer Grosbard is a clinical psychologist. His novels and non-fiction works have been translated into several languages and have won awards (ofer-grosbard.com). Dr. Grosbard is a research associate in the Strategic Research and Policy Center of Israel's IDF National Defense College. His doctoral dissertation from the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University on which this book is based, was awarded the Menachem Begin Heritage Center's Research Prize.
--------
This book was published in Hebrew by Resling Publishing House (Menachem Begin – Portrait of a Leader – A biography) and soon became a bestseller in Israel. It was also published in English (Menachem Begin – The Absent Leader) by the Strategic Research and Policy Center, Israel's IDF National Defense College, for selected readers, such as politicians, military personnel and senior civil servants. This is the first time the book has been published in English for the wider public.
